Yeah that was my original thought. I knew teams used to do that all the time- trade non-gauranteed to be waived for guaranteed(salary dump)+assets- but you can't anymore. Now, from 1 day after the regular season ends to July 1st(? i think), the salary that counts for outgoing salary matching in any trade is the lesser amount between their salary for the remainder of the current season, or the guaranteed salary for the next season, which for Zion is 7.9mil(Shamit said, idk). The team receiving Zion would have to account for his full salary number either way though, guaranteeing just the next year at 36 mil. But we could only bring back 7.9 unless sending out trade exceptions. But whats confusing to me is if you just do all this after July 1st because the out in his contract is by July 15th, does that make all the difference? Maybe Griff thoughta dat.

I am still waiting for a team to do a fab 5 rebuild. Go into the draft with 5 or 6 top 20 picks. Then start 5 right away. The team will suck at first. But it'll be talked about for a long time and would be fun to watch develop.

We could have definitely done it the year we drafted Zion. We had #1, 8 and 17. We could have gotten top 20 1sts for Ingram, Ball and Holiday easily. Would have been more fun than the shite we've been watching instead..
