Irving is a great, great player. We're not sure if Anthony Davis will be as great as everyone thought but you don't take the great PG over the great PF. You have to wait another season before you make this determination.

Pretty stupid to give up on him. I'm not saying he'll end up being this superstar but he gets to the basket and has a quick first step. His defense has gotten a lot better since he first started playing as well. He has to start finishing at the rim and has to get his free throw percentage up over 80% or else his skillset will be a waste, but I'm not writing him off.
I think he'll be a completely different player by this time next season.

i hope so, but usually drivers can finish at the rim. a driver who can't finish at the rim or shoot FTs is basically negative value
i mean he'll have to make MAJOR strides in both to become an efficient player. it's certainly possible but it's been ugly so far

That's like saying Tyreke over Westbrook. Sample size is too small to make that decision right now. The poll itself is stupid.

Agreed on rivers
If he continues his growth into a solid defender and works on his finisher he'll be a great option for us.

Yea probably, but how else would you gauge it? I mean, looking at their performances on the court in NBA games is the only measuring stick here, right?

Or looking at their performance on the court and making a reasonable projection of growth and value. I can make a reasonable assertion that Anthony Davis will continue to grow as a player and become an anchor for the Pelicans.
In my opinion that would make Anthony Davis more valuable, thus making my decision easy.
I'm not taking anything away from Irving, he's one of my favorite players in the league right now.

Anyone who actually watches Rivers play should not be anywhere close to giving up on him yet. His quickness is already very impressive, he just needs work on the finishing and free throw shooting. I'm one of the loudest anti-Rivers guys on here, and I'm willing to give him another year.
I don't see him ever being more than an average guy off the bench, but if he can be that then he isn't a total bust.
Of course I could also see him always being terrible and being somewhere in Europe by 2015.

I think he's going to need longer than a year. His deficiencies are so glaring that it would be nearly impossible for him to improve all of them in one off-season.
I think his work ethic are what will push him towards at least a decent bench player for his career. If he can't get over the hump and is stuck being a crappy NBA player then it won't be from his own doing.

we'll see if rivers can get his PER into "average" territory next year (which is around 15.0 PER)

Is there any way to check what his PER has been over the recent stretch of games? It has to be a lot higher than his season average due to his horrendous start.

Very fair point. His FT% is way down from what he shot in college, so I think it could also have a lot to do with his confidence. He thinks about it too much instead of just feeling comfortable at the line. We'll just have to see if he can improve as his confidence grows and he gains experience.

In his rookie year, Parker averaged 9 pts, 4 assists, and 2 TOs in 30 mpg. He shot 41%, 32% from 3, and 67% FT.
Rivers averages 6 pts, 2.5 assists, 1.4 TOs in 23 mpg. He is shooting 34%, 31% from 3, and 59% FT.
If Rivers can stay close to his 47% shooting over the last few games, his numbers will become comparable enough to keep me optimistic.
