The New Orleans Pelicans are signing guard Izaiah Brockington on a 10-day contract, Darrell Comer of @_tandemse tells ESPN. Brockington’s averaged 13 points and 6 rebounds for G League Birmingham.

Another Squadron player getting a pay increase. They don’t need to convert Matt Ryan until the last day of the season if that’s their plan, so I could see the Pels continue to cycle through Squadron players.

They don't need to do anything. But they WANT to reward these guys and are using this avenue to do it. Not even sure why you are so hot about it. It doesn't change any plans for the Pelicans main roster and they are using available resources to do it.

It helps the Pels pipeline for the long-term. Guys are more likely to sign with us for the Summer League and for the Squadron if they have a decent shot at getting a 10-day, or especially if they ultimately can get a two-way contract.
It doesn't cost Gayle that much to help ensure that the Squadron stays successful in the G-League. That's good for us when we send players down to develop them, as well as for building up the Pels fanbase throughout the Deep South.

This is exactly what it’s for. They are using the space below the tax to give the G-League guys a little extra money in their pocket. Each 10 day contract signed gives those guys around an extra 100k, and shows alot of good will when you’re trying to get other players to come to the G-League team as free agents.

Obviously the Pels value these players as high character members of the organization/family and want to reward them for it.
Brockington in particular was a fringe draft prospect before his acl injury and they are taking care of him. Nothing wrong with it and it probably does manufacture some legitimate goodwill in the locker room. It is also something positive to point towards in other undrafted free agent negotiations in the future.
