Cody Taylor of Basketball Insiders wrote a piece that mostly talks about the team and injuries but within that piece is a nugget of info stating that we have had interest in acquiring Shumpert

LINK

quote:

A source told Basketball Insiders last week that the Pelicans were among the teams interested in Cleveland Cavaliers forward Iman Shumpert. Since acquiring Jae Crowder from the Boston Celtics in the Kyrie Irving trade, many speculated that Shumpert could be expendable. There were conflicting reports last week that indicated Shumpert requested a trade from the Cavaliers, while some reported that he made no such request. Regardless, a source has maintained that the Cavaliers have been shopping Shumpert this summer. It remains to be seen exactly what the Cavaliers might be looking for in a potential Shumpert trade, but he could be a welcomed addition to a Pelicans team that is very limited on the wing now.

Austin Kent of Hoops Rumors also has this to say about it

quote:

Neither the $25.9MM guaranteed to E’Twaun Moore through 2019/20 nor the prospect of adding Pelicans center Omer Asik to the frontcourt mix are presumed to inspire much enthusiasm in Koby Altman‘s front office, leaving us little choice but to speculate that the Pelicans will need to fill their perimeter holes elsewhere.

I believe that is a great move at this point, and maybe even prior to Solo injury, depending on the consideration given in exchange.

Basically would be replacing Solo output and a tad bit more offense. I would trade our 2018 2nd rounder and Asik for Shumpert.

Why would Cleveland do this deal? First, as noted, Shumpert wants out, despite reports to contrary. Secondly, a look at Cleveland roster reveals no backup big, that is somewhat proven. I don't consider Frye a big, more like an unathelic, shooting SF. Thirdly, Cleveland plays a prodding, methodical game due to Bron being the conduit for the offense, which he will be even more utilized without Kyrie/until Thomas returns from injury. Also, Cleveland plays in the East and can get away on many nights with Asik eating minutes and looking forward, defending the likes of D. Howard, J. Embiid, Al Horford, H. Whiteside, A. Drummond, etc. All centers who are of the traditional type and in offenses that Asik has been rather effective against.

Lastly, Cleveland can utilize Asik as an expiring contract after this year in the event Bron moves on and a reboot/retooling becomes necessary.

This just may work in both teams favor and fulfill needs on both sides. Do i give them this years 1st rounder?? No, but if we stumble out the gates like recent years, we become desparate and have to do something to save the season. Most critical year for this team to remain in New Orleans, bar none.

It's a top heavy draft and we are not expected to be a bottom 5 team.

we all love draft picks and Shump isn't worth a first rounder, but our pick + bad contract for a wing scorer should certainly be on the table, all the time, until we know whether or not this new identity works.

if we are drafting anywhere near a spot to get a legit starter, this team is fricked and will get blown up anyway. Trade the pick and Omer and Moore, and basically anyone not named AD/Boogie/Jrue, and get Shumpert in here. We may not have a big 3, but we can have a big 2 and a lil bit...

I would trade Asik and pick for a wing scorer as You mentioned.
Shump is just not a wing scorer.

Shump is playable. And is an upgrade over Asik.
I can do a swap between those bad deals with additional second rounder from us. Not the first.
And Cavs wont bite...

Shump has really bad deal. Is healthy. But brings a risk with himself.
