Can someone start a thread that updates information as we get it like macatak911 did? Or will everybody complain cuz someone started a new thread about Oden?

Might as well, this thread has been hijacked

I would. But seeing as Oden's meeting is next week....that wouldn't be my best decision in life.

Found out some things that throw a small wrinkle in the plan, but maybe it's all good news.

First, while you can rearrange the order of deals, there are limits, and one is that once you sign a guy into space, you can't change that. Same if you sign him into an exception.

So, Stiemsma's signed into space, and so it Murrow. Stiemsma actually makes a little more than the Room MLE, so that was off the table to begin with. Still, Tyreke's deal was clearly done by Thursday and Dell said Holiday's was official on Friday, so the basic rule that allowed the signings remains in place.

This leaves the Room MLE to sign Oden with . . . or a trade to create a ton of space.

I'm not sure where the report of a 2y deal worth more than $3m annually is coming from unless the report is wrong, this info about changing mechanisms is wrong, or there's a big trade in place to create room.

Still digging, will continue.

That is coming from Steve Kyler at HoopsWorld. Last week he said he was going to talk to the Pelicans this week in Vegas, but I can't believe the team told him details about their plans for Oden unless they wanted him to. Bill Ingram at HW is the one that printed that the Peja trade was to avoid bankruptcy only to delete that sentence from his article pretty quickly after I posted the quote here. I see 2 likelihoods. Either Oden's agent is trying to get Miami to offer as much money and years as it can with the taxpayer MLE, or the Pelicans are leaking this information to scare Miami off. They seem to be the only team left with the cap space/exceptions to outbid the Pelicans.

I was getting torn apart for making a thread about him. And i got called an attention whore for posting it

FWIW the problem with your thread was that it wasn't an Oden thread, it was a call out thread attacking people who disagreed with you. That may not have been your intent but that's how it came off. If it was just seen as a duplicate thread they'd have anchored it rather than whacked it. I'm glad you had thick enough skin to stick around though, my objections in that thread really weren't personal

Chad if you're willing to keep the OP in the other Oden thread up to date, bump it and we'll see if we can switch over.

I know who said it last. I want to know who said it first.

Miami seems to be the one that could financially outpace the Pelicans. They likely offer a better situation than other room mle teams, but we'll see.

I think the Heat sign Camby, Mavs re-sign Wright, leaving it between us and the Spurs. It would be nice is the Spurs signed Mike Miller (OKC looking like the front runner), leaving Oden with just us.

Even if those teams don't sign these guys, Oden seems like a backup choice for all of them right now, which should help our chances.

Didn't SA get rid of blair?

If they still have him, i doubt theyd be willing to give up much for oden

Miami also has birdman

I suppose $3m annually means a salary the rounds to $3m each year, which the RMLE would each year. I took it to mean annually at least $5.5m... typical overthinking by me.

I still like the Pelicans' shot at Oden.

Ah well

I trust in dellmontys pitch to oden

I'd like to think he'd want meaningful minutes.

Miami would just sit him

One of the few reasons I believe we have the best odds to sign him. Even SA probably wouldn't offer him that much playing time. Duncan and Splitter alone have to account for at least 90% of the minutes at Center (whether Duncan wants to admit it or not).
