Only reason that they get rid of Batum is because they are tanking and will not care about Gordon's shooting ability and want to get picks at that point. Maybe a Gordon plus our first rounder for Batum they would have to really think about and I do not see as a bad deal for either side. They may think about taking Gordon off of our hands though for nothing like a fake second or something if they can do some wheeling and dealing to get the salaries right.

3 and D wings are still in short supply, they can get more than an expiring for Batum. It'd either have to be Gordon plus a pick or a 3 way with Ryno kind of like the Ryno/Batum/Monroe rumor we conjured up this past offseason. I just went through the list of 2016 RFAs and the only ones that were good enough but not too good were Terrence Jones and Motiejunas in Houston. I'd hate to have the Flamethrower regain form in Houston, but turning Ryno into Batum makes so much sense for the Pels.

If we are giving up a first rounder in the future, i'd like to get something better than Batum, and we'd only have him for 1 year guaranteed.
Not giving up a first rounder to get a 1 year player again like Asik.
We need to get some draft picks, even if they are in the late teens early 20's. It would be nice to find a David West like we did in the past with the 18th pick, or whatever he was.
Almost every team in the playoffs has guys on rookie deals still except Memphis and LA.

At some point, this team is going to have to actually use draft picks and develop talent.

Yep, at some point we have to find upside on the cheap.

Exactly. Most good teams have cheap talent that played well above their contracts.

Houston with Parsons and now with Jones and Montiejunas.

GSW with Draymond Green.

The Spurs with about a million different players.

Bulls: Jimmy Butler and Mirotic.

etc.

Yeah the trade of Gordon for Batum was more pie in the sky not just because of Batum's value, but also because Portland still will have Afflalo still on contract, which makes Gordon redundant. A more realistic option would have to involve a 3rd team like Ind. Something like, if LMA leaves and Portland resigns Matthews:

NOP - Batum and Hill
Ind - Gordon and Anderson
Portland - Hibbert

I could only see this if Ind dumps Vogel and want to start over. This lets them out of their contract for hill a year early and brings them the shooters that they desperately need. Portland would have a replacement for LMA and dump the under performing Batum. NOP finally gets a 3-d wing and alleviates the problem of their best bench player playing the same position as their franchise player, but lose their two best three point shooters. I am not sure if I would do it if I was NOP, as this seems like making a change just for the sake of change, but this is more realistic than Gordon for Batum straight up.

IND isn't going to blow up the roster with PG on the team.

We should be able to move Gordon at the break. Some team will be crapping the bed, and eyeing 2016 at the same time.

Realistically, if we are going to pair a star with AD, it'll be via a trade at the deadline instead of a big FA signing. This is where Dell thrives. Let's hope he hooks the big one in February of 2016...

ETA: Someone in this thread brought up MDA. It would probably be a shite show, but AD in his system would be dynamite.

If we pass on Thibs this offseason and hire fricking Dantoni next offseason, I will go Jester to a picnic table on this bitch.

If Thibs wants to coach the Pels next year, I gotta assume that the job is his.
