The league has informed teams of a potential revised 2020 NBA Draft date of November 18, sources tell ESPN. The NBA and NBPA have been negotiating on that new date.

quote:

In a memo to teams today, the NBA explains that pushing the draft date back from October 16 allows for a pre-draft prep and a combine, more time to gather information on the potential start date for next season, and the advancing of talks with the NBPA on CBA matters.

quote:

A significant part of why teams wanted that draft pushed back -- in this case, likely a month to November 18 -- was to allow the NBA and NBPA more time to negotiate the new salary cap numbers for 2020-2021. Teams need those figures to be able to conduct trades around the draft.

I think we can also infer from this that the next season won’t start until at least January 2021.

There should be a vaccine available by then, and it will be interesting to see if the league requires all the players, coaches, referees, etc. to take it. Doing that will eliminate the need for a bubble.

Of course, fans will be a different story. But resumption of regular practice and play without a bubble depends on a vaccine, and any vaccine will initially only be available to high-risk people (people like nurses and the elderly), and the NBA won't try to get special permission to get the vaccine early.

At this point, there are 4 different vaccines that are likely to be approved for emergency use by then. It's just a question of when their availability is extended from high-risk people to the general public.
