You should be able to flip him immediately. The problem is Minnesota had been valuing him as a #2 pick and wanted something crazy like Pau Gasol in exchange. If you had lower expectations, something like Wilson Chandler, you could probably move him quickly in a 3 way for something you can use.

Something like that would be perfect, imo.

As deep as Denver's roster is, PF is actually where they are kind of thin so it really would be a win win trade assuming they don't want to hang on to Chandler because of Gallinari's injury.

Why wouldn't the Wolves call the Suns and just get Oladipo at 5? They have a player the Suns want and kind of need(Williams). They could swap picks and Phx could send the Wolves a future 1st (Lakers pick?). Makes more sense than dealing with NO and taking a chance..

New GM maybe wants to make a top 5 pick? Obviously if a deal like you outlined is on the table NO never gets the call, but I would certainly drop back to 9 for Wilson Chandler. If you're hell bent on a PG then at least one of Burke, McCollum, MCW should be available at 9.

Phoenix already has 3 PF/SF tweeners though.

Beasley and both Morris twins.

Channing Frye has some weird injury that kept him out the entire season, but he'd be their 4th SF/PF tweener

We're coming off a 27 win season. We shouldn't be writing off any decent players, even if he's just brought in as a future trade asset. I tend to think he has a Jeff Green type of career. Great player? No. Decent trade asset? Sure.

Particularly if we're just moving back a few spots and could still potentially get the player we wanted at 6.

That $6m in salary we'd be on the hook for is $6m less we have to offer to a starting 3 like Martell Webster or Dorell Wright.

I don't mind eating a contract like Marion for a draft pick because Marion at least plays a position we could use.

Williams, though? He will sit on the bench for us and cost a shite-ton of money to do so if we can't find a taker for him.

Williams is much, much better than Beasley and the Morris twins.

At 6'11" 245, Frye is more of a stretch 5 than a sf- that is if he even plays again.

PHX still probably shouldn't do it, unless they just love someone that will be there at 9- Zeller, KCP, MCW, maybe McCollum.

If I were them I look to package Beasley with Dragic or Gortat to start clearing space and get picks/young assets. They are one of the worst teams in the league with no real hope of improvement, barring a miracle, over the next couple of years.

They LOVE Dragic though. Every Suns-related blog doesn't even consider Dragic not being there when they talk about Phoenix rebuilding.

He had a good year and hes a good player on a fair contract. But he's not good enough to build around and he's already 27. I doubt the Suns are even competing for a playoff spot before they have to decide to resign him through age 33 or 34.

They dont have to move him, but at least worth seeing what teams will give up.

I don't see it. GMs and Coaches rarely ever look that far down the line. Most of the time, They don't last that long. Teams generally look 3-5 years down the line. And Dragic even at 27 should have at least 7 more years of high level play barring serious injury. You also have to remember that they have Kendall Marshall who is still developing his game and should have a shot at taking over once Dragic contract is up.

Its a brand new gm and coach- if ownership isnt going to give them time to fix the mess they have, then whats the point? Plus Dragic is a FA in 3 years- all of which will be spent as a lottery team.

That very, very optimistic. A mid 30s guard is not a good bet.

Its silly not to even explore moving a valued asset that will likely not be much help when the team is worth talking about seriously. Hes a nice player, but he isnt untouchable. Especially when he is on a good contract with 3 years left.

If they can get a 1st, a young player, or just move Beasley, I'd think long and hard on it. They will be awful for the next 3 years.

3-4 years is enough time for any competent GM/Coach to put a team together especially a ball club without any real bad contracts. Most coaches who start a rebuild never make it through the rebuilding process. They are generally just used as transition coaches and a stepping stone for another coach.

I don't think Phoenix is thinking so far into the future that they are just going to toss away their most talented player right off the bat. PG is one of the few positions where you can easily play at a high level until 34-35. Besides, Dragic was a late bloomer and he doesn't have a lot of tread in his tires. His career is just beginning. Hell, Nash didn't come to Phoenix until he was 31? PGs who has the type of fundamentals that Dragic isn't likely to decline in their early 30s.

This paragraph makes no sense.

That team is going nowhere for at least a couple of years, cap space or not, competent organization or not.

Fundamental question: why hold on to a 27 year old who will never be an All Star on a high lotto team IF you can flip him for younger, potentially better assets?
