Suns have improved their team with Dragic and possibly Beasley (if his head is in the right place), so an unprotected first rounder isn't as valuable as it would have been a few days ago.
they'd be minus there big man, and add an injury prone Gordon in a tough west conference.
id think that is a late lottery team at worst

Yeah, Gortat is great, but that trade would basically be a matter of betting on Gordon staying healthy (keeping him) or getting injured again (trading him). If Gordon misses 30+ games, the Suns have one of the 5 worst records in the NBA.

id like to have more flexibility in trading Gordon, but if it absolutely has to happen, i guess that deal would suffice

How do you mean? Financial flexibility? Because if Phoenix has the cap space to do a Gordon for Gortat deal (plus whatever pick), that would save us about $5-6m next season and would pretty easily allow us to go after two max contracts.

flexibility meaning being able to openly trade him to another team
Posted on 7/6/12 at 10:25 pm to Lester Earl
I'd rather keep Gordon for another year and try to unload him than take anything PHO has to offer.

Ah, gotcha. If Demps is considering trading EG at all, I'm sure he's working plenty of teams right now, but time is limited if he wants it done this season.

Gordon just has veto power, unless there is another team he'd go to instead of PHO

Eric Gordon is pretty talented...he's a top 10 scorer

Maybe Dell decided he doesn't want to sign him to a max deal because of personality and history of injury. So they sit back and let him make an arse out of himself so the fan base would be on board in trading him, but at the same time continuing to say that we will match any offer so we can get the max back in a trade.

They didn't foresee this possibly happening? Would a more experienced GM had seen this? A uber talented 23 year old SG who can take over a game commanding offers in restricted free agency? is it that far fetched that maybe they need to do a sell job of their own?
Those are all decent questions. Here's the thing, though, all we really have to go on are public statements and news reports. None of us, as far as I know, are privy to discussions and events behind the scenes.
As far as the original offer of an extension made by the Hornets during the season, I can't see how anyone can say it was "insulting" or "unreasonable" under the circumstances. The guy was still proving himself . . . and, really, he still has something to prove to the Hornets and the rest of the league. I don't fault the Hornets for making the offer and allowing Gordon to test the market.
Now perhaps Demps should have said some more encouraging things to Gordon in private. I have no idea what he told him. But I'm skeptical of Gordon's as gospel. And, frankly, they are symptomatic of the diva mentality in most of pro sports. I'm not saying Gordon is a bad guy or won't play hard for the Hornets. But perhaps both sides could have handled the situation better.

I agree. He deserves to play in a pretty good city.

now this would be an interesting twist to this saga!

works for me
here is a fact- EG wanted a max deal offered after playing 2- TWO games for the hornets
If EG was a once a decade player, i.e. Davis, then I would get everyone moaning and groaning
but he's not. He's a pretty good player....like many others that are available or will be available in the future
If the dude doesn't want to be here, which he has shown from day one.......then I don't care to have him on the team that I pay for tickets and support
people act like he is a once in a lifetime player......Eric Gordon's come around every year, he can certainly be replaced by someone who wants to play in NOLA
Austin Rivers WANTS to be here, I am good with that....there are and will be others that want to be here
so Dell needs to work a deal and move on, Eric Gordon is NOT the key to the Hornets winning championships

Unless we see some amazing change of heart and durability, I agree. But it also may be true to get the best possible deal . . . even if it's not immediately . . . you have to match the offer.

100% agree
I just hope they are trying to get Phoenix to retract offer and make a solid trade if they and he want to be together so badly

exactly.. I say keep this poison away from our rookies and move forward without him. I really feel our team is moving in the right direction and it wont be long until we can start to attract some big names in free agency.

bitching about drafting Rivers isn't the best foot to start off on as far as being a teammates and leader, JMO
