It sounds like I disagree with the sentiments of those on this board. I think it's unlikely the Pelicans make the playoffs over the next 2 years, and I believe that prioritizing winning in the short-term likely lessens the ceiling of the long-term. That is, it's probably going to take a lot more than Zion, Jrue, and the #4 pick to win a championship, and Nola isn't a free agent destination; thus, it's going to require additional lottery picks to win an NBA championship. And what's really the point of being the #8 seed in the playoffs in two years anyways? Nola needs to demonstrate some serious patience IMO.

Completely agree

The Pelicans traded two top 10 picks to get Jrue Holliday

Tanking is pretty much useless now anyway

I think 35-40 wins would be a great start and then push for the playoffs in 2020

The raptors just won a championship because they drafted/traded/scouted smartly

How many lottery picks are on that roster?

If it was so easy by having a whole much of high picks then the suns would be relevant

Well were about to draft one and have him for more than 1 year

You can build through the draft without high lottery picks

Langdon understands this very well given what the nets have done

Utah/Denver are other examples

Cool. I hope it works out better than it did with Anthony Davis, who was also a first-team all NBA'er with the Pelicans.

For next year, no, and I would actually wouldn't mind a similar W/L to this year and add another asset to the team going forward. I think that is likely to occur with the team construction the way it is right now. In year 2 the team should be competing and probably should be a 3-6 seed in the west, with competing for championships from there on.

The big components of the team as currently constructed are Jrue(29), Lonzo(22), Ingram(22), Zion(19), #4 Pick(assuming it is kept). 4 of the players are young, 2 are rookies, and the other 2 are learning a new system, it will take time to gel, and it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to add another talented player to the mix, all I want to see next year is improvement over the year.

Do you care about the Pelicans W/L record over the next 1-2 years? Why/why not?

of course, but ask me this question after all the dust settles. There are too many unknowns at the moment.

I'm shocked at the number of people gleefully talking about spending assets for veterans on expensive contracts just so we can make a run at the 6-seed for a couple of years, just to be quasi-relevant.

Most of us aren't. We're looking to add a young veteran who can be part of the championship run in a few years. What most of us want is a player who hasn't yet peaked, but who is already performing at a high level. That player can be a part of helping to create a winning culture now, and he can contribute to the titles we're trying to win 4-5 years from now.

A team of nothing but young players is a recipe for trouble.

So true. We need Jrue plus one more high level vet just to show the kids how they are supposed to act this year.
