That would convince me this franchise is cursed for mediocrity forever

Well, if you exclude someone like Mark Jackson, yeah.

If they hire Kidd, then this front office is no better than the last one. We need a guy who will change the culture and someone who won't put up with lack of effort on either side of the ball.

I don’t consider Lue to be a big culture changing hire either

I agree, I don't want Lue either. His only success was with LeBron and I don't want to take a chance on that.

Pop's only success was with Duncan and Kawhi, guess you wouldn't take a chance on him either huh?

Seriously? Duncan and Kawhi have been gone for the last few years and Pop still has his team competing hard and pushing for the playoffs.

Pels were competing for the playoffs this year also.

I'll add some more.

Kerr hasn't done anything without Curry and Klay.

Stevens hasn't done anything without Tatum and Brown.

Carlise hasn't done anything without Dirk

Have you seen the Spurs' roster? The fact that they're anywhere near playoff contention is an incredible coaching job. Our roster is much more talented than theirs. There is no way in hell that we don't make the playoffs if we had Pop as our coach.

The fact of the matter is that none of us really know dick about these coaches and what makes them good or bad. We think we do, but we don’t.

Lakers fan melted at Vogel getting hired. The media made fun of them. It turned out quite well.

That’s true, but in general, when you have two superstars, you’re going to do well, regardless of who the coach is.

When you have two top 5 players and one of them is one of the two greatest players of all time, you’re going to be in the Finals almost no matter who the coach is.

Talent is worth everything in the nba.

For a small market team, we NEED that small edge at coach to compete with the glamour markets.

The whole point is that we aren't in a position to take huge risks. You better have extreme confidence in a guy like Lue, or you risk wasting away more talent.

One factor I can think of is that a long tenured coach may be able to attract some free agents compared to a younger assistant. We may have 3 candidates who all have a solid plan for the future but only one or two that can help bring the reinforcements.

That's a bit revisionist now that they've won. People were ruthless about Vogel getting the gig and we knew then how good AD and LeBron were individually, even if we hadn't seen them play together. If it didn't matter who the coach was, no one would have cared.

He is one of the few candidates that I will have nothing positive to say about if we hire him. So yeah, I'll "melt" if we hire him. With Lue I can at least see some reasoning in it even if I don't personally want him. With SVG, I actually think that might be a decent hire even though there is certainly some cause for concern with how he did in Detroit. For the rest, I could probably find some redeeming qualities as well. But I just can't bring myself to do that for Kidd.

People, including myself, drastically overrate coaching in the NBA.

I don't think there are very many examples of this being the case. It seems location and organization are more important than coach.
