Sounds like JJ should've opted out of the season and the Mavs are Nazis if they don't buy him out immediately.

We don’t really have any way of knowing this yet.

But already Hart has posted twice, once in favor of doing right by JJ, once in seemingly annoyance/anger at where we traded JJ, and he shares an agent with JJ, is a good friend, and is a FA.

If he decides to go elsewhere and cites organizational trust as a factor, yeah, this could be pretty bad.

If Lonzo and Klutch use this, even disingenuously, to try and bully and strong arm the Pels, signal boosting that reputation further, yeah, this could be bad.

Or maybe Griff goes hat in hand to various guys affected by this and fences get mended and the only things we hear going forward is how good an experience playing under Griff’s organization is.

What if Dallas doesn't buy him out? Does the same thing apply to them?

It's all of 2-3 months of JJ being somewhere else. You're making a mountain out of a molehill.

Well they don't have the same dynamics so your red herring shlock is invalid. Keep trying to curve this into you being right. You're not.

Like I just said and you completely ignored, we’ll have to wait and see what, if any, substantive long-term consequences might arise from this.

But that doesn’t make how Griff handled this good or any less problematic going forward if he continues to make false promises to players, or miscommunicate expectations in a way players misperceive.

Do you even know what you are saying and what point you think you are even making?

Serious question.

Richard Jefferson and Robert Horry.

This is good for the Pels...

Only real consequence this could have is with Hart, and if he leaves we don't have to overpay him.

I love Hart but whatever he gets will be an overpay. Same with Lonzo.

If we keep them, fine. They are good players. If we lose them, fine. We can find other good players with that money.

Life keeps rolling.

Did Griff ever promise to buy him out? How do we know he didn't try to trade him to a spot JJ wanted to go?

There's no way the expectation was I'm going to get paid to leave if you can't trade me to 2 or 3 teams.

Players are going to want to do what's best for them, and they have every damn right to do that, and organizations have every damn right to do what's best for their organization. I have problems when it gets skewed that it's a business from my end, but you should not be a business on your end. That's not right. It's a business on both ends of it.

My god can we get this just permanently placed at the top of every TD page? I’ve had to make this point countless times on multiple boards and some people can never grasp it

Eh, don’t really think any free agent or current player on our roster is going to give a shite what a bunch of old role players think.

This is just the noise that comes out of the ether of sports talk.

Only thing that will tell us anything is if this does or does not affect future negotiations and decision-making by players

Al this back and forth for a whole lotta nothing.

Players ALWAYS back other players and I just watched Richard Jefferson and Robert Horry LITERALLY laugh out loud at JJ Redick.

Griff won't even need to do one of his media blitzes over this. This is nothing.

Of course you don't

I'd be willing to bet that a shitload of players current and former feel the same way.

Ultimately this won't matter too much.

The buyout was never promised. It was always going to be a last resort.

And who knows if the teams he wanted to go to wanted him.

We got a decent return. It was worth it. There was no guarantee we'd keep Hart next year regardless.

I mean. Do all the current pelicans players just sit there and think:

“shite, I don’t really care if it made our team better. I’m just pissed that they messed over my friend”

Like. Are we giving the league THAT little intellectual credit?

How will we ever know? Or, are you going to look at anything bad that happens to the team in regards to free agents and blame it on this scenario without any sort of "proof"? Or are you expecting things to occur and players to come out and say, "I did this because of how you treated 37 year old JJ Redick in his last 3 months of his contract with you!"
