It's About to Get Ugly...

If Monty Williams insists on not playing Austin Rivers. He's clearly over with the fans and at this point he's clearly better than Brian Roberts. The ball actually moves when he's on the court on offense, and he is a better man defender. Rivers made Burke work his arse off, while Roberts rolled out the red carpet tonight. He made some dumbass decisions when it came to help defense and playing off his man tonight, but, honestly, when you get 6 minutes here or there every 2-3 games, why would you expect defensive chemistry?
The crowd cheers louder when he's checking in the game than they do for players in pre-game intros not named Anthony Davis. They cheer louder when he leaves the game than they do for anybody but Davis. The frustration is building and it's about to become Marcus2.0 up in this biatch and all over the Pelicans-related-Interwebs.
I may get slaughtered for this last statement, but I don't really care. Right now, Rivers is the best POINT guard on this team, including Holiday. I do not know WTF is up with Jrue, but our offense looks like crap with him running it right now. The only rhythm we get into on offense most of the game is when someone heats up or starts ballin, or Rivers run point. He knows who he needs to find to score and is dialed in to getting Anderson and Davis the ball.
The fact he's not even the backup is a fricking joke.

Monty loves Rivers. He's trying to ease him back in slow after last season. He'll play more as the season goes on. Chill out.

Laughing because I was thinking back to last season when everybody said he sucked.
But I agree he's better than Roberts. Not Jrue tho

Dude. They won. We can let it go for one night.
Rivers came in after Roberts sucked in the first half. Monty adjusted and he let Rivers play.
Have a beer and enjoy the victory

FWIW, I always stayed positive about Rivers. Pretty obvious that he's great at getting to the basket. He had trouble finishing and making free throws. His court vision and passing has gotten much better so far this season

He's not exactly lighting it up on offense (37%, 1 to .6 AST:TO ratio), but his defense, which he showed flashes of last season, has been legit. I like what Roberts brings to the table, but between Reke, Ryno, and Morrow, we don't really need his offense. He really feels like an undersized 2 guard moreso than a PG. So, yeah, count me down for wanting to see more Rivers.

Monty said in the post game that he's looking for someone to take hold of that position (back up pg). I think it'll end up being Rivers.

seem likely or plausible.
I don't really care if people agree with me or not on this. I know what I see and I know what I've seen.
I hope I'm wrong but I'll save this and bump it when Rivers continues to rack up DNP-CDs.
I'm happy we won. I'm happy Davis is blowing up.
I am however not happy that our team's potential isn't anywhere near fulfilled and our guards continue to look pedestrian compared to their talent level. I want a title and I honestly believe the pieces are there with Davis' level of play to make a postseason run into the 2nd round THIS year and start gaining playoff experience. Sorry if I can't sit back and just be content with below average coaching.

How much improvement can we reasonably expect from year one to year two?
I think he can improve greatly. I sure hope so because if he can't his skill set will be useless. he needs to make that the focal point of this offseason

I bet you play NBA2k14 and drop 40 a game with rivers huh?

Everyone said last year that we never planned on playing Rivers as much as he had to play. He had way too much on his plate and he was trying to learn to play point guard while trying to catch up to the speed of the NBA. We don't need to rush Rivers into anything with all of the guard depth we have. He'll eventually earn more minutes because of defense and his ability to get to the rim.
I'm well on record with my views on Monty so far this season, but he's not doing anything wrong with Rivers so far.

Yeah, he's got no worries. If the Pels play poorly, he can just go root for his other favorite team. 15 year olds

And yet the armchair coaches turn out to be the least knowledgeable people

They may despise me and my hatred for Monty, but I don't think you've offered one opinion (much less backed it up with rationale) on anything Pels related this entire calendar year. If there was one poster on this board the board could vote off the island, rest assured sir, you would get 95+% of the votes.
