re: If we just lose Anderson and Gordon, what cap space would we have?

The Posey comparison doesn't work though.
Sure it does. Role player on a championship team. 3 and D guy. 4th-5th offensive option kinda guy. When asked to do more than be that role player can't live up to his contract.

That's a pretty superficial comparison.
Posey was nearing the end of his career, he was 31, was strictly a "glue guy" type player, wasn't particularly athletic at that point, and was getting the MLE.
Barnes is 23 years old, was a high draft pick, is significantly more athletic than Posey ever was, and is looking at a huge contract. Barnes has had a higher 3pt% in his first 4 years then every single one of Posey's years in the league.
They really aren't the same player at all. Barnes is a major risk but his ceiling is WAY higher then Posey's could ever dream of, let alone at that point.

You have to get the roster up to 12 with minimum salaries or $543,471 each. Technically you only need to go to 11 because whoever you're signing would be your 12th, but with the 7 players and 1st round pick you listed that means adding 3 roster holds for about $1.5 million.
Where are you getting your salaries from? The numbers from Basketball Insiders give me different figures than what you have. With AD getting Rose Rule money I come up with $72 million and $68 if he doesn't.
Davis 24,972,216 (21,109,000 non Rose Rule)
Holiday 11,286,518
Evans 10,203,755
Asik 9,904,494
Ajinca 4,713,203
Pondexter 3,617,978
Cunningham 2,978,250
$6 pick 2,931,000
Roster Hold 543,471
Roster Hold 543,471
Roster Hold 543,471
Total 72,237,827

was using the numbers from HoopsHype and DraftExpress
Spotrac has non-30% AD23 at $20,956,974
Imagine a scenario where we sign and trade Ryno and EG for picks after the season.
Someone still wants Reke and Asik, for picks. AD23 doesn't make All-NBA...
Then we are back close to 2 max territory this offseason, with the cap expanding again again to accommodate $20 million for Jrue in 2017-18?
Anthony Davis $20,956,974
Jrue Holiday $11,286,518
Harrison Barnes $21,000,000
Timofey Mozgov/ Festus Ezeli $21,000,000
6th Pick $2,931,000
Alexis Ajinca $4,638,203
Quincy Pondexter $3,617,978
Dante Cunningham $2,978,250
Roster Hold $543,471
Roster Hold $543,471
Roster Hold $543,471
Total: $90,039,336 - Maybe Harrison and Festus take a little discount to get us under
Still would be nice to get Mozgov pre-deadline, so his birdrights put his caphold under 10mm, allowing us to maybe sign a Courtney Lee, before resigning him over the cap. DAMNIT TYREKE!

I really hope we can do a Mozgov for Asik swap to clear up more space. Moz will company a lot of money and he knows he can fleece the cabs because they have no other option. With Asik he's already signed and would be cheaper.

Pelicans need to immediately go to the Canary Islands and sign Kevin Pangos as a back-up PG. He has been tearing up the European league this year and should be on an NBA roster.
Posted on 2/12/16 at 6:37 pm to ihometiger
We're out of roster spots, but now is a good time to sign a legit backup guy to a 2 year deal. Gives you early bird rights at the end like we used for Ajinca and Babbitt.

The whole league is waiting to see if ATL is breaking it up. That could start a lot of balls rolling.
TigerinATL... tell me what you think about this hypothesis as to what the Cavs are probably thinking. BirdWrite's touched on it briefly.
Cavs want Asik, because they can sign him into the Haywood trade exception, and because they really have no way to sign someone in the offseason to replace Mozgov's minutes, for as LITTLE as Asik actually costs.
They are willing to take him, and we end up with a trade exception... Straight up.
We get out of the Asik deal for free, if that is what we want.
but Dell doesn't want to be the one without a center next year. He wants Mozgov.
But the Cavs need to use the exception to sign their center, and then move Mozgov for a guard that can help right now in a separate transaction. Could we trade Asik into the exception, and then swap Cole for Mozgov? Maybe. If nobody else is willing to help the Cavs.
Are there any other bigs that could help the Cavs this year and beyond? that would fit in that exception... YES... just one... his name is Tiago Splitter.
If ATL is breaking up the team, we might be screwed.
They could swap Tiago into the exception for nothing. Then send Korver for Mozgov. Less years on Tiago than Asik, but more years on Korver... and they are both better options for this years run.
Then ATL trades Millsap and Teague to BKN for Joe Johnson's expiring and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, + 2017 1st BKN or 2017 1st BOS + 2017 2nd BOS.
Then they are down to whatever they get for Horford...Mozgov's bird rights...
Bunch of great guys on super cheap deals. Dennis Schroder, Thabo Sefolosha, Kent Bazemore, Mike Scott, Walter Tavares.... and then about $80 million in cap to redo the team. Could they really go from the playoffs, to scorched earth? I hope not.
