I am convinced that Zion does bare minimum in the offseason. My guy goes on vacay and doesn’t work on anything. His dribbling is the same, his shooting form is the same, and he comes in out of shape and chubby every year. I can lookup on YouTube just about any player and find some sort of trainer vids or the player themselves training. Not him lol

I'm not going to be too hard on Z quite yet. He reportedly had a nasty flu bug and he's not moving and breathing at a high level. Let's give it a week.

That said, I'm not as concerned about his shooting arc as I am about his rebounding mentality. The video cut up put together by Boot Krewe absolutely slaughtered his effort on the boards. Multiple instances of him standing around gawking when a shot went up while his teammates attempted to block out much larger opponents or of him leaking out up court while others crashed the boards.

This has to stop. Now. The Pels line up cannot work if Z won't rebound. Heck, Hawkins and CJ are pulling down 6-7 boards a night. Zion had 3? That is straight up garbage. He has to hit the boards.

He also hasn’t worked on his shooting form for free throws. You still see his funky arse follow through every other shot. I’ve never seen anything like it. His hand goes inward when he follows through lol

Yep, and I guarantee you a huge part of LeBron’s success is growing up as that poor kid in Akron without a father. He knew he had to make it for his family, regardless of what he had to sacrifice. Compare that to Zion and it’s just a world of alternate perspectives. I just don’t think you can be great without suffering first, and I don’t think Zion is too interested in that. Sleeping with pornstars and doing Mountain Dew commercials says the opposite. He wants what is comfortable, and there’s no growth in comfort.

Because he never has had to.

He played high school as strong and fast and could jump 2x as high as anyone...he never had to do anything other than jump over and go through people to dominate.

He did the same thing at Duke.

He's had 5 years to learn new things with the Pels. He still hasn't. He thinks he'll get by with just being bigger and jumping higher.

And for the record that has gotten him pretty darn far and pretty darn good...but it won't get him to the mountain top, which he could have gotten to if he worked to develop new skills these last 5 years. He simply cannot be a top 5 player as is.

as i watched that i was wondering how it went when the team watched film together. I assume they watch film together. Do they not call him out for this blatant laziness in front of everyone, or do they just ignore it? The rest of them see it on screen. This is how bad lockerrooms form. Your leader doesn't put in the work in the offseason like the rest of you, then he gives this shite effort on the court. I found it very concerning when Missi wasn't helped up off the floor when he fell down after getting fouled in that 2nd Blazers game. It actually took a few seconds of him sitting there with his hands out waiting for someone to finally come help him up, and Jose was on the court at that time and didn't immediatly come over, something he awlays does. That's concerning to me as i look at the overall attitude of the team.

and i agree that it may be affecting him a little bit, and i'll give him some more time to prove me wrong, but i was one of the few that didn't really care for how he looked in the preseason. I actually watched the games and saw a fat out of shape Zion for the most part that was also able to score points when he wanted, which was a good sign i admit. Most people likely just saw the stat line and didn't actually watch the games and thought he was ready to go.

Watch how often he walks or slowly jobs up and down the court tonight. There's no more sick excuses at this point. He's got more medical access and time to feed his body what is needed to recover than a normal person.
I've said it before, but how come there are no highlight videos of Zion grabbing a rebound and sprinting down the court like a bull and finishing at the rim like you see Lebron and Giannis do all the time. There's literally not a single highlight of him doing this in his nba career. That's pathetic for someone of his skillset. The only highlight that comes close to it is when we took the ball out from under the basket after a make with a few seconds left before half and he wen the length of the court quickly for the easy finish.
