When the New Orleans Pelicans wrap up any practice or a shootaround, the team splits into different groups on goals scattered around the practice facility to get up extra shots.

So far this season, almost without fail, one of the last players on the court is Lonzo Ball.

Day by day, practice by practice, shot by shot, frame by frame, he and the Pelicans are doing everything they can to rebuild what had been a broken jump shot.

Prior to this season, Ball's shooting form involved him bringing his right hand -- his shooting hand -- across his body and releasing the ball to the left of his head. This year, with the help of Pelicans assistant coach Fred Vinson, the third-year guard has modified his shooting form, in hopes of turning around what has been a dreadful start from the field to his NBA career.

The improvement on the shot is great when the shot selection is there. When he’s off the catch and shoot I’m satisfied with where he is. But he sorely needs to remove those pull up threes from his game. Absolutely hate it even if it goes in.

He needs to get stronger and work on taking contact and putting up a shot at the basket. Seems like he doesn’t have the ability to put up a decent shot when there’s contact. Very puzzling for a guy with that kind of length.

translation as seen on the court "I'm just gonna shoot a shite load of 3s and make them at league average to below league average"

OK, congrats to the coaching staff -- you've fixed the shot. Now, devote every practice to driving to the rim and dunking or laying it in.

I can live with him going 1-10 from 3 as long as they are good shots and he catches & shoots them in rhythm. But that is not what is happening.

His shot selection is horrible. Under no circumstance should he be shooting contested fade aways from 5 feet behind the 3 point line with 15 seconds left on the shot clock.

I know Lonzo is figuring things out game by game, but to say this after he just played 30 mins of basketball without shooting a 3 is a little baffling. Again, he may shoot alot 3's against the Bucks, due the their length - but at least give him some credit for the previous game. He is the biggest project on this team with NAW.

Good read, Thanks

I wasn't thrilled about Ball coming to NOLA (mainly because of Lavar) but now I find myself pulling for him and hoping he carves out a spot in our team.

Kid needs to get to the rim. When he can prove he can get to the rim at ease, he will get more open looks. Right now, he is forcing bad shots. IMO, i don't know if Ball will ever play up to his potential. Seems to play very timid.

I don't want to kick a horse that should already be dead, but i still feel like that's coaching. Yes Lonzo is making the bad decision to shoot long, but i'm guessing if he knew somebody was going to get open, or set a pick, and he knew what was required of him, that he wouldn't take those.

Sometimes it looks like 5 guys all trying to play a different strategy. Not being able to settle into a play will affect shot percentages as well because guys can't focus on the shot, their brains are still trying to figure if they should've passed etc.

Lonzo is my biggest letdown this season, and i thought he looked good in the preseason.
