so under your logic people in New Orleans and want to see them but they dont have access to CST, under that logic then people should be going to the arena.

Awesome

I am probably one of the only Hornets fans in Shreveport. I watched most of the games last year online. I really would prefer being able to watch it on my Directv though.

I have EATEL in Ascension and they carry Cox Sports, but I'm pretty sure I'd almost quit following the Hornets if they dropped Cox.

How many nationally televised games do they have this year? 1?

They need to work on getting their product out to everyone possible in Louisiana and the gulf coast.

WGN, people here have access to almost every Cubs game.

This used to be the case for WGN...but that's not even close to true anymore.

Did you not read that the only games I watch are the ones I go to????

You try going to 42 games a year.

I made it to 31 one year and that was really hard to do.

It's next to impossible.

but you know what I'm getting at? Right?

There are tons of cibs fans, and why? The team hasn't won a championship since 1908.

Yet they have a ton of fans. Because they had a local channel go national and carryt their games. Of course these were the days of 30-40 channels. Now that we all have 300-500 channels, we don't need to watch shitty Baseball games we can watch any team we want.

Except I still can't watch my favorite NBA team, except once a year (except for the games I go to)

No I live 75 miles away from the arena. I would consider going to some of the games if I was familular with the product. Since I live in Franklinton La. and I do not have access to the Hornets games on my preferred television entertainment source Direct TV, I have not been able to develope any loyalty to the hornets or the NBA to make me want to spend my money on tickets for their games.

Your logic would be sound but would it not make more sence to have their away games available to every possible fan in the state and not just COx Cable or dish network subscribers.

I emailed him about this last year, and this is what he said:

Nobody is more frustrated by the fact that every Hornets fan can’t watch our televised games. Cox pays the Hornets a rights fee for the ability to produce and then distribute those games to the market. This is a contract that was signed in 2002. This is much like Fox paying for the rights for NFL games- it’s not necessarily a monopoly, it’s something they own and ABC by example can’t broadcast.

Before Katrina the Hornets were carried on Charter Cable (North shore) on what they call a sports tier. In other words, each household had to pay an additional fee to get a bundle of channels that included Cox Regional Sports Network (much like one would for Showtime or HBO). After the storm Charter decided that they could not afford to offer that option to their subscribers. There are approximately 15 providers region-wide that agree with Cox on a consistent carriage fee- Charter would not agree to those identical fees.

Two years ago we were able to strike a deal with Dish Network. There are now approximately 4x the number of people who have access to Hornets games on the North shore than there was prior to the storm, but the perception is that no one can watch our games.

We are working closely with Cox to make sure we have successful negotiations with Direct TV and AT&T’s U-Verse. The possibilities with U-verse are more immediate than those with Direct TV. U-verse is looking at the New Orleans market as a growth opportunity that the Hornets may be able to help, while Direct TV looks at the New Orleans market as one that is growing fast, so the mentality for them has been, “why should they invest in showing the Hornets”.

They should just work a deal with a local tv company like my54 and put a feed of the game on there like the saints do during the preseason

Are the NBA insist that the Hornets games to be made available on the Direct TV league pass.

This way subscribers to Direct TV would have to pay an additonal fee if they want to watch HOrnets games.

I beleive all Hornets away games should be made available state wide to all residents via a local channel like UPN54 to help develope new fans who would help support this orgination in New Orleans.

This would create more fans and would make those fans more willing to pay to attend the home games when they are in New Orleans.

Seems your problem is with Direct TV and not Cox. Direct Tv doesn't want to pay what every other provider pays, thats not cox problem, thats on Direct TV
