in case you missed it, we ARE that "willy-nilly" with tax funds.

if the team were actually in danger of walking and this 3.7 million dollars a year would solve the situation, I might agree with you.
but those are not the facts.
Thats a huge part of the deal that Benson struck with Stern. Have you ever negotiated anything before? The entire parameters of Benson's negotiation to buy the franchise were predicated around this subsidy existing.

obviously that isnt true.
has ANYONE ever even claimed this to be the case?

Of course this is true. Benson is sharp as a tack. There is no way he would have agreed to this deal without assurances from Jindal that it's done.
I'm sure Benson is hardly worried about this. You know this is getting done, I know this is getting done. I'm going to go back to work rather than argue with you more

What part of "we'll be able to close this deal" meaning the deal is not currently done don't you understand.

Won't have to wait long:
"agreement in principle"

The rep who introduced the bill didn't just wake up that morning and say hmmmmmm maybe we should give tax cuts to the hornets. NO, it was discussed during the lease/owner negotiations.

Shinn had an offer for about $350 million from Larry Ellison but he wanted to move the team. Instead of letting Shinn sell to Ellison the league did the state a favor and bought the team to provide more time for a local ownership group to come together, something they didn't have to do. In exchange for that one of the things Stern said early and often in this process is that he expected to get inducements like the Saints got to make the franchise viable and sell it locally. The Quid Pro Quo has been there from the beginning. You should have trusted us.

your argument is based solely on a youtube video which was referencing the lease agreement.
if the ownership agreement is REALLY contingent on this 3.7 million a year, why hasnt ANYONE said it?
you would think that would be a pretty important fact, right?

You can imply things.
A) $48 million tax cut packages don't just come out of nowhere, especially when publicly endorsed by the governed.
B) do we have the details of the lease/sale agreement in its entirety?

so this bill was debated for hours, never once did anyone say anything about the ownership agreement being contingent on this money, and now we are to imply that it was?
this makes perfect sense to you?

It has been said, it was mentioned as soon as the league bought the team. It's been part of the business model all along.
quote:
However, Stern also made it clear that Louisiana politicians should be prepared to revisit the Hornets' lease of the state-owned New Orleans Arena and the level of taxpayer-funded inducements the club may receive in the future.
Stern made an oblique reference to the NFL's New Orleans Saints, who since 2001 have negotiated inducements worth hundreds of millions of dollars. A recent deal even involved Saints owner Tom Benson buying a downtown high-rise with a guarantee that state agencies would lease office space at an above-market rate.
"Whether you call it a lease or some additional arrangements that I think the state is probably familiar with in the context of a sport whose ball is shaped differently than ours, I think that the state will be a party along with the team and possibly the city to a broader deal," Stern said. "It's a fair issue, and the governor knows we're coming."
