never post on here but caught the end of the game tonight and completely agree with this. I mean the guy was doing very well late in the fourth on Kobe and also did much better on the offensive end as well. Rivers (among other things) has lost a lot of confidence and this board is moaning about not pulling him late in the game when hes finally showing signs of playing well? Gotta give the kid minutes when hes earning them. Gonna pay off in the future.
Yea, no shite. I hardly post here, and never in a game thread. But I watch the team. Rivers was not the problem tonight. Bitching about him tonight is just retarded IMO.

You act like 2-5 extra minutes for a professional athlete is something that will basically kill them

Ryno has to fire off deep contested 3's or try and drive the paint against like 3 guys when he plays with shitty arse rivers and roberts
He missed some wide open shots in the 2nd quarter.

So, we just say frick rest and frick health any time we arbitrarily determine a game is "winnable"? That's not good coaching. We lost, clearly not a perfect game, but the refs alone were about a 10 point swing.
no. the officiating was bad towards the end, but missed layups (mostly by the bench) and Monty's decision making was the reason we lost this game.
the Lakers are also on a game stretch of 4 games in 6 days yet they are still playing their starters 35-40+ minutes per game. 38 year old Steve Nash and 34 year old Kobe Bryant each played 35 minutes tonight and guess what? they have another game to play in less than 24 hours.

You realize that part of the reason we were down by so much in the fourth is bc despite being handed a lead at the end of the first quarter the Rivers led bench unit proceeded to immediately give up a 12-0 run. Then after the starters cut a 16 or so point deficit back to 4 towards the end of the third, the Rivers led bench unit again proceeded to immediately get outscored by double digits in the span of a few minutes. And then yes, FINALLY in the fourth once Gordon and Vasquez came back in and all Rivers had to do was sometimes dribble the ball and play D on a Kobe who was clearly looking to draw the double team and pass, Rivers looked DECENT

I watched the game. Ryno and Smith missed everything in the 2nd quarter. I don't put that on Rivers.
In the 4th, the lineup we had was solid, with Rivers making solid plays. I guess you could have replaced Lopez with Davis, but he did have 4 fouls early in the3rd I believe.
Either way, Rivers wasn't the problem tonight.

some truth there, imo

They did, but cmon it's not a coincidence that both of them make far more of their shots when they play with Vasquez and Gordon. I guess we have different definitions of open as well. Smith and Anderson are both very good shooters from their respective locations and can make tough shots, but makeable does not equate to open, Compare their shots to the shots Jamison, Meeks, and Clark were getting. They were open

Not the easiest thing even if he thinks he is Magic all of a sudden.

True, and they missed open shots. I put more of the problem on Roberts TBH.

The real reason we lost. Those dudes are scrubs IMO (minus Jamison), and they couldn't miss. fricking Marcus Thorton shut down Meeks in college, yet that bitch couldn't miss.

i just got the impression that Kobe didn't score because he chose to pass, not because Rivers' defense was anything special...
don't get me wrong, Rivers did better than I thought he would in that position

Some truth to that, but Rivers stopped him from being Magic in the 4th.
I was surprised at his D as well. Mabey Monty has decided for him to focus on that aspect of the game to get him some confidence. I don't know.

he has his moments...i still think he may have an NBA future

He is a work in progress no doubt. I am not a defender of him, he has been garbage. But he did not cost us the game tonight. He played well.
I hope it gives him some confidence. We could use him.

EG shot the 3 like a beast. Gravy was gravy. AD showed some offense but was say down. The bench was really really really bad. Anderson was missing with the second unit but was hitting shots in clutch. Rivers had problems finishing early, but shots dropped late in the game. Rivers played solid D.
The refs used us like a 2 dollar whore. Howard would squat in the paint for 5+ seconds pretty regularly. Kobe could have dribbled the ball with his dick and no one would have said a thing. At one point (not an exaggeration) he sat under the basket for 7 seconds and shuffled his feet, no travel, no nothing.
That sums it up.

It's really EG have a solid bounceback and gravy as well.
I'm glad to see that rivers is starting to play better. Finishing is his problem but he'll get it worked on.
Our bench definitely needs a couple of pieces next offseason. A vet back-up PG and a brusier would help immensely imo.
Oh and frick those refs.
