Did the livestream cut out for anyone else after the question of why Zion isn’t playing at the end of quarters? I wasn’t able to rewind, so what was said?

Yes it was asked by Will Guillory and the feed cut out.

I'm sure Will will tweet out the answer or write about it.

Griffin says the medical staff has determined Zion should play his "bursts" at the beginning of quarters bc that's when he's warm.

They don't want him sitting for extended periods and then going into the game after he's cooled down. It's more of a routine thing.

This makes no sense since he is waiting at least 20 minutes between being taken out

Why not just start warming him up in the middle of the fourth? Makes no sense

WTF do they think happens for the last 8 minutes of each quarter?

1. That's literally what they're doing.

2. How do you have to wait longer periods of times playing 3-4 minutes at the end of the quarter compared to the beginning of the quarter?

There is no science to back up what they are doing. This is very tough to swallow as a fan, I can’t imagine how frustrating this is for Zion and his teammates.

What Griff really said was they don't care any bit about making the playoffs, these are all just 8 more scrimmage games, and let's get ready for next season.

That's how I took it.

They've placed 0 priority on these 8 games and trying to make the postseason, this feels obvious.

I just want to hear of 1 other example of a player returning from a non-injury that is a key player who can play 30+ minutes per game returning to play 15 minutes a game for 2, 3 or more crucial games....what's the precedent for that?

he expressly said he very much wants to make the playoffs and that this makes it more difficult.

Well of course he'll say that, but the actions are saying otherwise.

maybe, I'm just clarifying what he actually said.

He flat out said the goal is to make the playoffs, but they have to deal with the hand they are dealt. And the hand they were dealt is that Zion had to leave for legit family reasons and wasn't privy to the ramp up that the rest of the team was.

They also can't go 5-5 so he can't get it in practice.

fricking none shel. N-O-N-E. Zion is being treated as an asset and not a person.

You have a real chance to do something with an elite rookie athlete in his first season, a real chance to start putting the franchise into a position that can be viewed as successful with so many young great players.

yet we're playing the long game.

Having Alvin Gentry as your Head Coach says otherwise.

But here we are.

I’m with shel on this one. Healthy professional athletes don’t play less than 1/3 of the game when returning from less than two weeks away from the team, especially when they get two practices in. This is professional sports and he is healthy.

Their medical team can give me their reasons, I just don’t agree with them. I wish they would give us the reasons because I’m sure I could make a pretty damn convincing case to counter it. Shel is right, they are punting on this season. Hell, they are punting on Zion getting any meaningful experience this season. I just hope the kid gloves come off next season.

My position is based on Zion being healthy and not suffering with some undisclosed injury.
