What’s the point of having a bunch of draft picks if we aren’t going to play them the first year. I hate this method. We won’t know who has it or who doesn’t. And I do not want to pay a guy based on his potential when his contract is due.

I will say that Kira has a lot to learn on defense. I'm just glad he's getting to sit back and learn from watching some true professionals play defense at a high level every night.

I keep thinking how a guy like TJ McConnell would be great for Kira to learn from. However, in SVGs defense, he would probably have him trying to guard the paint by running back and forth across the court until someone is left open and he has to run full speed for a late close out.

Minutes will open up for Kira and Jaxon, despite their flaws they both bring something to the team that we currently lack (foot speed and rim protection respectively). NAW and Hart are somewhat redundant although Hart has more physical strength and can guard 2 through 4. Our leading shot blocker is BI at less than one a game, Jaxon has shown he can help in that area he just needs to develop with team defense concepts.

Shamit tweets the truth:

I see a lot of outrage over this, and I understand where it's coming from.

However this is pretty milquetoast for me. It's a GM having the back of his coach. They are aggressively shopping Bledsoe and JJ to clear up minutes for the young guys. Actions are louder than words.

Part of aggressively shopping the vets means you can't just bench them. I'm sorry, I know people want it. It's just not going to happen. Sure you might have a game here or there where they get less minutes. SVG isn't going to anchor them to the bench.

I don’t think SVG’s issue is necessarily one of scheme. It could be, but it’s a player issue, regardless. If you absolutely suck at point of attack, you’re fricked. Either a the ball handler is going to get whatever he wants or your team is going to scramble and rely on perfect rotations.

Lonzo is arse at getting through screens (which Kira excels at, fortunately) and Bledsoe is staying in front of no one. Those two struggling so much really screws the rest of the team.

This statement assumes when you play young guys you are destined to lose.

Memphis has a very young roster and I don't think they don't value winning. They are just trying to win with their young guys.

This nostrum that veterans have the corner on knowing how to win is narrow minded. But for sure Griffin and SVG are on the same page--they don't like young players.

I get that Griffin thinks he's building a "culture" but I'm not sure that's going to turn out to be the case. He stated that Bledsoe and Adams would make the team more competitive and intense and I can't really see that has happened. It looks more like he overvalued some mediocre veterans and generally misunderstands what goes into winning.

If you wonder why we don't have depth and young talent we are bringing along be sure it's because Griffin chose to give that away in favor of veterans like Adams and Bledsoe and Redick--for their winning "culture."

Agreed. If these young guys don’t know what they are getting. Than why would you draft them in the first place? If they take it for advantage, then they will know real soon when they get cut.

Average age of MEM's top 11 dudes in minutes per game - 24

Average age of NOP's top 11 dudes in minutes per game - 24.7

Meh. With JJ being the very extreme outlier, it's really not THAT much different.

They draft late college players and play them. We draft freshman players and don’t play them at all.
