Just saying that you missed the point because you got fixated on me bringing up how much you like Borrego.
Why do you wish the hell that is being a middle of the pack NBA team on this franchise?

I don’t wish that man. But I disagree that a losing season will change things here. I think that what I disagree with you on.
We’ll have a high lottery pick and Griff will do some dumb shite. Gayle isn’t firing Griff.

Hitting on a lottery pick changes things more than finishing 10th does.
You have a better chance to hit on a lottery pick by losing in a season that is already lost.
Again, it's not a hard concept.

How did Zion change that? And hitting on a lottery pick is not easy. Again I think you think tanking is the solution- it doesn’t always get you the results you want.

we should just clean house and load up on as many picks as possible. Tank for Flagg, fire Willie, keep Herb and Trey. This version of the pelicans is the most frustrating team I’ve ever pulled for

The top overall pick being a bust is more of an anomaly than the norm.
Again, I'm not saying it's a fool proof method, but nothing in the NBA is, it's all about playing the odds, especially for a small market franchise that doesn't attract top free agents.
Sometimes you get burned, but your only chance of landing an all-NBA player is hoping you hit in the lottery. To hit in the lottery, it's more conducive to have a higher pick than a lower pick.

I don’t believe thats true at all. Lets just go back the last 10 years.
Wiggins
Towns
Simmons
Fultz
Ayton
Zion
Ant
Cade
Paolo
Wemby
Risaccher
The only guys from that list that changed a franchise direction is Paolo, Ant, and likely Wemby. You want to tank for the number one pick- where only 3 of the past ten picks have really impacted a franchise in terms of winning.

The history of the top overall pick says otherwise.
Again, the only way the Pelicans can succeed is through the draft.

Agreed. But it doesn’t mean tanking is the only way to get that guy. Again you may disagree.

Changing a franchises direction and impacting winning are two different things.
Wiggins ayton Simmons were good, just not number 1 on a team good.

My point was if we tank and we get the number one pick- you think guys like Ayton, Simmons, or Wiggins impacts this team that drastically in winning? You think its worth tanking for guys like that?
Also not sure if Wiggins did anything in Minnesota in terms of winning.

A competent starting caliber player on a rookie deal would help a lot yes

You would tank the season to pick first overall and be satisfied with a competent NBA starter as your prize?
Ok. Lets waste a whole season to get a cheap NBA starter.

I get your point but you cant look at the draft as a constant. This draft looks like it will be better than the average draft.
With that being said, the sad reality isn’t that we took Zion first overall. Every team would’ve taken him 1st 100/100 times. The issue I struggle with is would he have inevitably been like this with every franchise, or would others have kept him in line and reaching his potential. If the answer to that question is “no, it was not inevitable”, then cleaning house is imperative.
I think it’s time to close the book on this era and move to the next. The sooner we do, the better chance we have to compete

I'm not arguing tanking the season. Just that a top pick is generally good most of the time

I think we can all agree on this.

Gotchya. You may be right but man the Zion pick just makes me question that. I probably have Zion ptsd.

People in the media are really going to give us some shite if we get the #1 pick this year

AD, Zion, then Flagg. They’d move us to Seattle if we fricked it up with 3 in a row

At this point, Gayle really doesn't have any choice. If she tried to bring Griff, Willie, Zion, and BI back next season, she wouldn't sell any season tickets.
And she knows that and isn't interested in losing large amounts of money. So, some big change(s) is/are coming.
