Draft Garland at #4, Then Wait on Trades as Draft Develops

Crewz suggested something like this, and the more that I think about it, the more that I like it, and I won't be surprised to see if Griff is thinking the same way, unless he gets a deal beforehand that he really likes.
If you are convinced that all these teams that want to trade up to #4 are doing so for Garland, then you just draft him yourself and watch the draft develop.
"Atlanta, you want to give me #8 and #10 for him? OK, I'll just wait until the first seven picks are in, and then I'll see if the guy I want is still there at #8."
"Minnesota, you want to do a player deal and ultimately give me #11 as part of that deal? Well, make me your best offer. Hmm … I'm not sure if that's good enough. I need to see who's still available at #11."
It's the kind of strategy the Griff can pursue, because he's playing with house money. He's operating from a position of strength. Worst case scenario is that he just ends up with a guy who a lot of people think could be an amazing PG.

you'd have to assume garland is the actual target of all these teams though.

Watch as the fan base melt Nerlens Noel style when we draft Garland and get super excited and we trade him later.

The pick has way more value before we take garland, unless you’re convinced garland is the guy everyone behind you wants.

It’s safe to make that assumption

The Atlanta trade would be dead in this scenario.

yeah teams rarely bullshite this time of year about the prospects they want

Been thinking this since all this talk about him has exploded. If he’s the prize outside of top 3 grab him and then you have a nice bargaining chip if for some reason you don’t want him.

I'm pretty much all in on Garland now. He can develop behind Ball/Jrue/Payton (if we keep him) and come off the bench. Plus he's injury insurance. Who knows how Ball pans out over the next couple years.
I think we need to take advantage of that pick being locked in this high. We're all hoping we get high picks later, but none of that is guaranteed.

Good. Not a fan of this trade at all.

I'm wondering if all this Garland talk is to throw teams off the scent of Hunter.
It seems Cleveland is locked in to Hunter at 5, and Atlanta is high on him as well as the potential target for moving up to #4...

well of course you do that.
I didn't need to read Crewz twitter to think of that. I literally said that earlier today.
You have deals set up with Boston/ATL/Minny, and you have guys you know you want to get. Draft Garland, if that's who all these teams want, and wait and see what happens.
We have no idea what the Pels draft board looks like.
Me personally, i'd say if Culver or Hunter are there at 8, you do the ATL deal.
If they aren't, move onto the Minny deal. If Hayes is there at 11, do it, or if you value Goga that high, do it. if not, move on to Boston deal.

I mean that's not going to happen with ATL if you draft Garland. Those are the guys that Atlanta wants. They don't want Garland.

More i think about it, ATL doesn't want Garland, they want Culver or Hunter.
So if we draft Culver, i think that means we are taking the ATL deal.
If we draft Garland, i think the Boston/Minny deal is in play, as well as Indy.

wish NO would just take Hunter at 4 and be done with it

I've heard for a while that Atlanta wants Hunter/Culver but especially Cam Reddish
They already have a solid PG that can shoot and plays mediocre defense, they don't want another

Garland is the perfect NBA shooter we have been looking for for a while...I hope we take him.

And if they are, the question must be asked as to why you are so keen on giving a guy away that teams with proven track records scouting picks, like Boston, Minny with Rosos, Atlanta, Indiana, and others are trying to get? Especially when one of the rumors is simply moving back and getting off an expiring contract.
