But those who are paying attention closely can see that, even with a bad roster, Monty just isn't a very good Head Coach.

By "those paying attention," you mean you and people who agree with you. I pay attention and I don't think you can pass judgement.

And its pretty evident that our players dont respond to him and dont enjoy playing for him / have fun playing for him. And there are good coaches (better than Monty) that would pounce on the opportunity to coach this team.

...but he's a great young coach...he made the playoffs one time!

...we love defense-minded, toughness-oriented coaches...remember when we had a decent defense 3 years ago? That might have been all Monty's doing!

One time, Pops called him a great young coach...reporters keep saying it...It must be true, how can we question? He coached the Olympics!

The roster is not great, but it isn't that bad...we were 23-29 at the all-star break...we have no business going on 10 game losing streaks.

He's a decent player, but clearly not "good"

There is no need to deviate from your central argument and blame Demps for Monty's failures this season

So two quotes. One that was in response to a time Vasquez was on the team and another when I was talking about the entire tenure of Monty leads you to the conclusion that I was talking solely about this season. It is a picture perfect example of taking someone's words out of context.

He has had one non-shitty roster to deal with in 4 years and made the playoffs.

Yeah, that one time he had a decent roster.

Well, I'll take Pops saying something once over any poster on this board saying "Monty sucks" a million times over.

Well to be fair... we went and signed those "crappy players" when CP3 and D West and all them left to tank and rebuild vis the draft.

We succeeded in that and got AD. But, Monty also had to have Rivers as well.

Now that I think of teams tanking and rebuilding via the draft, its amazing how horrible the Cavs have been. Since the 2011 draft, they have had the #1 and #4 overall pick twice.

People keep saying this, but Dell made the draft pick. Do we even know that Monty pushed hard for Rivers? That said, we're talking about the #10 pick, which is notoriously sketchy.

all good teams have many good players?

Chicago?

...a lot of teams have holes...good players play heavy minutes...play as a team with a good system, it can work...Roberts' badness is overblown...the roster is not 10-game losing streak bad.

Sure, GMs are the guys that authorize the pick. But its the coaches that tell the GM who they want. Come on Galatic...youre better than that.

Monty is close friends with Doc Rivers and the family. Known Austin his entire life. And leading up to the draft it was always Monty talking about Rivers. It was Monty who wanted to take him.

And I agree the 10th pick isnt a lottery pick or whatever. But you gotta look at who we selected River over. Jeremy Lamb, Mo Harkless, Terrence Jones, John Henson, etc. If only Drummond fell 1 more spot

So now we are comparing Monty with a worse team to one of the best coaches in the NBA. Quite ridiculous.

So let's just pretend for a second that Monty was the person who picked Rivers. What do the armchair hindsight GMs suggest we should have done?

He should have pulled a Beetlejuice, caused a distraction, stole the 9th pick, and taken Drummond. It couldn't be more obvious.

Rivers was the first guy taken in the next tier of talent. I personally would have preferred Jeremy Lamb, but I still think Rivers will end up being a decent bench combo guard, which is good enough value for where they were picking.

what do you expect pops to say? Nah he's shitty. No coach EVER talks down on another fellow coach...EVER

Rivers and Monty are good friends. I wonder...You probably argue that it isn't sean payton, but loomis that makes the picks too right?

said it before, and I'll say it again. Jeremy Lamb.

You got a steal "once in a lifetime" player in AD. the 10th pick in a "deep draft" should produce you a good bench player that is...Jeremy lamb. Oh damn, for some reason he's playing well. At least better than rivers is. Monty wanted to convert Rivers (a SG) into a PG. that's the dumbest thing ever. If a player doesn't have the vision, never showed the vision, they won't just develop it overnight.

Monty has been making the same mistakes and losing games the same way for a long time. We always come out looking good, and as soon as the other team's coaches adjust, we're done. Hell, it took him until this point in the season to try something new with Tyreke/Aminu in the line-ups.

He's just not the guy for this team going forward. Nothing personal against him at all.
