Derrick Favors Paint Defense

I ran a query on NBA.com, and found that there were 49 players who had a play that was counted as “defended” inside the paint 300 or more times last season.
Of those 49 players, Derrick Favors was 2ND in shooting differential, forcing opponents to shoot 12.9% worse than their season average when he was the defender. Again, 2nd out 49 only behind Hassan Whiteside.
To put that in perspective, AD was 43RD out of 49, allowing opponents to shoot exactly their season average against him. To put that in even more perspective, guys like Julius Randle, Jeff Green, and Enes Kanter held their opponent BELOW their league average.

And a lot of people believe he was playing somewhat out of position and Gobert wasn’t a good match for him.
When he’s played the 5 he’s been very effective.

Didn’t even realize he’s only 27. Thought he was early 30s

Favors starts the next 2-3 seasons for us until Hayes is ready, then slides onto the bench for us. It’s a win-win, both him and Redick (along with Holiday) are FANTASTIC mentors for the young guys. All have experienced losing seasons and have all had playoff success, they all come from both sides which is understated in terms of mentorship.

And guess what? We will have cap room to resign him!
God I love this office. Of everything Griff has done, dumping that damn Solo Hill and his contract was the stamp of approval for me. How he got the hawks to take that bum is amazing
