Regardless of Lonzo we need a backup vet PG. How are we loaded at SG? We only have JJ who will be gone before this season or after it. Hart is also a SG but plays backup SF because we have no 3&D guy. NAW is a PG and should be a PG and I hope he keeps improving.

I agree with the second part of BI at the 2. Jrue could play PG and we fill out SF and C. Or Lonzo, Jrue, and JJ are all gone and who really knows what our FO is thinkig.

Not convinced of this yet. Watching him play, I wonder if he would be better off the ball.

I've thought about it too he has a great IQ and vision but the game looked fast for him.

One thing I did like was the chemistry he built with Hayes so quickly. I think once he plays more with the other guys his timing and passing will be alot better.

BIRD RIGHTS. You have bird rights on Plumlee and Millsap. They can run any and everything back if they want to and worry about the tax later. MPJ is still on a rookie deal and won't get paid until down the line and they have his bird rights too

Doesn't fit the timeline for the team

Yes. I'd be shocked if he got anything more then the veteran exception if applicable or minimum contract if not. Teams won't waste part of the MLE on him

Why does it have to be a 3-4 yr deal. I'd be cool with a short term Giles deal. With the salary cap/ covid issues I think people are more likely to take 1-2 year contracts with maybe player options so they can cash in when the cap is back higher?

Bc the team that signs him will gladly give him that. Its just a matter of how much. And if yall think he is just getting a minimum deal yall are crazy. He is not Okafor.

Grant isn’t a 20 million dollar player huh?? Not one person agreed with me before the off-season when I said grant would get 20 mil. What did he get 20 mil... just goes to show this board is full of delusional homer fans.. eat crow

You were right. I am stunned he got that much money, but you were on top of it.

So grant has a fantastic playoff series to the west finals but won’t get paid because it’s the bubble. Yet dellavedola does much less with a greater player in Lebron and will get paid?

Grants getting 20 million avg book it.

Well done.

I knew Grant would get paid but you absolutely nailed it

It’s pretty much universally looked at as a bad deal, congrats I guess (and I wasn’t even one who was arguing against you )

I read Denver were going to give him 20 mil too, but he chose Detroit for a bigger role

See if I can find the source

Me:
quote:

How soon we forget Solomon Hill...

Because absolutely small sample sizes, especially on playoff teams that make a run, have gotten people paid. And not just by Dell Demps. And Grant has done more than just a small sample size. At least a few teams will talk themselves into a number most people are going to think is an overpay.

quote:

Hill got drastically overpaid in an unprecedented cap year. Every team had a ton of cap room they had to spend. That is not the case now. Grant will not get $20 million. He may get something close to $15-$16 but not $20

quote:

Never said they were "dude." Someone above justified him getting $20 million based on Hill's deal. There was a one-time jump in cap that year. That is the ONLY reason he was overpaid so badly.

Guess I’ll take my apology now as well lol

It’s true, don’t need to source it. Would have made a little more sense for Denver, but I still don’t like paying a 3&D player 20 mil per season (though apparently he thinks he’s more than that which is why he signed with Detroit over Denver).

And that's the same thing that will happen with Lonzo, difference being Lonzo is a RFA

If a player feels like they're being low balled by their current team, they'll sign with another team for the same amount because ego reasons

Or super duper less. See Cousins, DeMarcus

I don’t know how to feel about Lonzo. I feel like I’m a fan of his, but then I read stuff on Twitter and then see things like him being ranked as the 54th best player in the NBA and I feel like I’m not as big of a fan as I think

I feel that Lonzo needs to make improvement in two of these three areas if he doesn't want to get traded at the deadline:

1) Continued improvement in 3-pt percentage
2) Increased aggressiveness in going to the basket
3) Improvement in FT percentage

He also needs for Kira and/or NAW from impressing enough to make Griffin believe that they can be good replacement(s) for Lonzo's minutes.
