It seems crazy on it's face, drop an established All Star caliber player for a highly touted but unproven rookie when you're trying to make the playoffs. And one of the main reasons you'd be doing this would be to head off potential money issues 2 years from now. It's just not a move teams usually even think about.

However, the reason this is something to consider for the Pels is because outside of BI's rookie year, neither Zion or BI have played more than 62 games in a season. The last 2 seasons you have 55 and 45 for BI and 0 and 29 for Zion. With both being injury prone/recovery challenged, you have to think the odds of both being healthy at the same time and gaining momentum heading into the playoffs is not great.

I'm still not convinced BI/Zion for Scoot is the way to go and think dumping CJ down the line is the move. But it is not an insult to BI to consider it. There is risk whichever way the Pels go. If the team is going to live and die by Zion, going younger and cheaper at the #2 spot isn't a bad idea. If Zion does great, Scoot should fit right in. If Zion doesn't do well, you have more options than you would with BI making $50 a year.

Now I doubt Griff would be the one that got to rebuild around Scoot if you traded BI for him and later had to move Zion. That's part of why I don't see a Scoot trade happening. But if Griff knew he had a long leash, it probably would be 50/50 on whether he would pull the trigger.

Its also been BI’s health!!! He hasn’t played 60 games in 4 years. You can’t complain about Zion’s health and then think BI is sitting here doing iron man 82 game seasons. I mean that argument is literally the definition of a hypocrite.

I’d give plenty the world to have z and bi both play 60
