I don't think he was comparing his game to Billy's, just the actual idea that Billy can not play for stretches, then does play when it's matchup specific. I think that was all he was comparing, that he could be very matchup dependent if he does end up being a player deserving of a roster spot.

and we have 0 idea if he can play any center or even hang with the bigger stretch 4’s at all. The dude is Jaxson Hayes but literally 50 lbs lighter. Jax is 220. Who knows what Butlers game will end up being.
I mean, every 2-way dude is going to be a project, and it's a win if they just make a roster for a few seasons.

I understand. Everyone is defending Butler but all I said was the dude is no where near NBA ready. I was specifically talking about how Plowden could bring more to our team now and actually looks NBA ready.

There isn’t any matchup at the 4 or 5 I would give him minutes against at his size. That’s all I’m saying. We saw how Jax struggled and he was already bigger. Being 7’1 and 190 (Chet) is already one thing and an issue. 7’1 and 175? Goodluck.

You are right, he is nowhere near ready. He is stictly a project. However, where would this team need Plowden? Unless we incurred a lot of injuries, Plowden would be in the GLeague. I think Butler has more "value" as a project and they want to secure him with the 2-way contract whereas Plowden at 24 has a better chance of being there later in the season in the G League if they ever needed him.

I mean you could make the same argument for Butler. He isn’t getting minutes over Hayes/ Nance/ Val/ Zion/ Billy (due to size) and all those guys are locked up for a few years.

Plowden could actually end up better than Kira and get a roster spot if we save money by trading Graham. So it would be CJ/ Jose/ BI/ DD/ Plowden? Kira? Naji?

If that’s a fair argument then people are making their judgment based on Butler being 19 and Plowden being 24. Which we shouldn’t do until they get playing time after seeing our recent success in 4 year college players and their development.

Maybe we can get lucky and both Plowden / Butler are legit.

Ship out Hayes and Graham for picks + cap space and can pay the rest of our young guys going forward.

I would not think they expect Butler to contribute this year (or maybe even next). He is a true project.

Now that Zion seems to be on the Butler diet, we need to get Butler on the old Zion diet

I hear you.

Though I'd argue the odds of either cracking this rotation right now are so slim that if the 2 are viewed as somewhat close, it may be best to take the more long term potential guy.

Agreed. And my original point is that Butler won’t impact our team for 3 years even if he develops well. Meanwhile Plowden IMO could be good enough to get regular end of bench minutes currently right now this year over Kira or Naji. More so if we were to trade Graham.

I think he can contribute next season in a limited role if he can get to 200 by the end of the year. That’ll be similar to how Pokusevski played for the Thunder his rookie season.

Only 2 of those 5 guys are locked up for a few years, with 2 of them potentially being gone in free agency as early as this offseason.

We also have Matkovic too and will have a plethora of drafts picks the next few years. I think it’s more likely he is a tradable asset > Plowden than anything due to his age and size. So keep him in order to make some profit unless we trade Hayes or something doesn’t work out.

I just see less minutes available at PF/ C going forward than PG/ SG. We know what we have in all 5 of our PF/ C.

We have CJ, BI, and Jose. Graham prob won’t be here much longer and DD/ Kira are still ? respectfully.

I mean shite I love Jose but who can even say Plowden couldn’t get minutes and even end up on the same level as him? I see more opportunity at PG/ SG the next few years > the latter until we see Kira, DD, etcc in action.

It sounds crazy and it kinda is but also it’s really not.

I think it’s safe to say we re-sign Billy. Unless he requests to leave for a bigger opportunity.

I already said if we trade Hayes I’m all for seeing what Butler can do. Again we currently we have more ? at PG/ SG than PF and C.

Kira is on a contract year and Graham could be traded. That’s 2 more guys at that position that might not be here next year. Everyone at C/ PF will be here next year and the only exception is Hayes who still could very well end up back with us on a several year contract.

Is it not more likely in y’all’s opinion that Plowden out plays Kira/ Naji and Graham gets traded > Butler outplaying any of our PF/ C in the next 2-3 years?

Butler is the best Pels off-season transaction. Because he's a seven footer doesn't translate to being a center. Butler will play primarily as a small forward and stretch four. Butler has great ball handling skills and lateral quickness. Still can't believe he wasn't drafted

That’s very true especially with their track record in recent years. Malik Beasley, Terance Mann, Jonathan Issac, Devin Vassell, Patrick Williams, and Scottie Barnes. He should have at least been drafted as a flyer for sure.

Butler is nothing like Jax. The only trait they share is length.

Butler is an oversized wing. Very intriguing prospect that I don’t think ever develops a post game tbh.

Also, Jaxson will have a better year than many anticipate he will have. To justify the continued hate they’ll say it was a “contract year.” Fuuck all that noise though, let my boy run!

Also probably not a complete a-hole that everyone he meets hates.

Have we not been treating Jaxson more like an oversized wing than a center?
