This article from The Bird Writes by Preston Ellis was good in several ways.

But I'm really dumbfounded by his the conclusion that we are unlikely to make a trade given the following:

1) He thinks that we will let E'Twaun walk after the season for nothing.
2) He recognizes that we signed Miller to a $7 million salary specifically to trade him
3) He points out that we have our first-round pick and Didi, plus four 2nds in this upcoming draft, which is more picks than we want.

I simply can't imagine why Ellis doesn't think that Griffin will combine these assets to get us a good player before the deadline. It would make no sense.

I think the question is who fits?

Our healthy roster doesn’t have a lot of “roles” needing to be filled.

Yeah, don't get that. I could see keeping Moore if we felt we could re-sign him at a reasonable price. Otherwise, it seems silly to just let him walk when he has a skill set that contenders may be looking for at the deadline.

Letting Miller expire makes no sense. If nothing else, we should use him to either facilitate another trade between teams (that need a salary to make it work) or to use to help a tax team dump a slightly higher salary. Either way, we should gain an asset. Otherwise, we just wasted $7 million on a player that should not have gotten much more than league minimum.

We have 3 seconds in this year's draft to go with our first.

Favors re-signs with New Orleans, in the neighborhood of a three-year, $55-million dollar deal.

the money doesnt matter, the years do.
2 years or let him go

Have you seen what this team looks like without Favors on the floor compared to with him??

That 3rd year wouldn't be a killer, barring a significant injury we could likely grab a 1st rounder from someone to move him if we feel at that time Hayes is fully ready to take the reigns and we need the cap space

i have, thats why i want him back. if in year three though they still crater without him, they have failed in team building

We got him for 2 2nds because Utah needed to clear cap space to sign Bogdanovic, and they told him they would move him to a team of his choice.

His choice was Pelicans, which is why we didnt really have to give up anything of significant value for him..

Utah cleared cap space, we had the space to absorb his whole deal, they got 2 2nds, Favors got to the team he wanted, that was a win for everyone involved

in year three favors will be 31 years old.
at 3/55 his 3rd year would be about 20MM. nobody is trading a 1st round pick to the pels for him in that scenario, especially at a mid-season deadline.

thats not even considering how the trade partner might match salary...

Depends on his level of play..

And as far as his cap hit, we could front load the deal and have it declining where his hit is closer to 14 million..

Also, I said we POSSIBLY COULD get back a 1st. His level of play and a team with cap space that's looking for a vet for their young team, much like the position we were in this offseason..

I didn't say we definitely could

no you didn't

can we agree that two years of favors is definitely better than three?

Sorry, likely could..

That's not saying its 100%, but if he continues his level of play, it's possible..

Either way, if it takes 3 years to get him to sign, sign him up amd worry about it later
