I'd like some help putting this together but this is what i have so far. if Boston trades us Tatum, who else has to be involved in it at a mininum?

AD has an incoming salary of $27.1M assuming no trade kicker, which i would imagine he's going to make sure he enforces if he's not going to the Lakers, so then his incoming salary is $31.1M, which means the Celtics have to send out $25M in salaries, or $21.8M if there's no trade kicker. This is the part i'm not sure of. Seems like we, the Pelicans, have to pay him that $4M as a bonus for trading him, but not sure if that becomes part of his incoming salary to the Celtics for trading purposes. This also assumes the Celtics are operating over the cap, which i'm not sure on either. If you don't count Irving's cap hold, then they are under, which means salaries matching up mean nothing as long as they stay under the cap after the trade.

Tatum/Smart is a hair under $20M
Yabusele is $3.1M
Williams is $1.9M
Baynes is $5.9M but i think they promised him they wouldn't trade him if he opted in.
Jaylen is $6.5M
They have a team option on Ojeleye for $1.6M

the draft picks don't count in trade salaries unless they have signed their contract, which they will not have done.

Is what i said correct?

The assumption is the trade is going to be Tatum/Smart/Williams/picks, which is $21.8M in salaries.

If that trade went through, we'd be at $75M in salaries roughly, with Solo eating up $13.3M, Moore at $8.6M. That's 9 players (Jrue/Solo/Moore/Kenrich/Frank/Okafor/Tatum/Smart/Williams) and Kenrich/Frank/Okafor can all be dropped each at around $1.6M.
Zion will add $8M
14th pick adds $2.8M
Cap is at $109M.
I think you have to add minimum's for whatever remaining roster spots for your total cap value as far as signing free agents go.
So i'd say we have roughly $20M in cap space, give or take a few depending on if the minimums count or not, for FA's this offseason after this trade, also meaning we can trade Solo or Moore out and take back that much more salary on top of theirs, like Moore for Brogdon in a S&T.
We could also dump Solo and have max money if we wanted to.

No idea but I appreciate the attempt at a breakdown. People bitch about the stupid threads on here but when someone attempts to discuss things in a rational way that’s formatted well he gets downvoted. Makes sense.

If AD takes the trade kicker, its paid by the Pelicans, but you will usually see a team send cash considerations also to pay the trading team back

It's almost assured if he goes to Boston they will have to go with the trade kicker match of 25 million

dragic just opted in for 2020

Hassan Whiteside 27,093,018
Goran Dragic 19,217,900
James Johnson 15,349,400
Justise Winslow 13,000,000
Kelly Olynyk 12,667,886
Dion Waiters 12,100,000

pels pay it, it counts as outgoing/incoming salary. he's not going to waive it

celtics will operate as above the cap, no matter what

So i'd say we have roughly $20M in cap space,

thats about what everyone is projecting, they can get more if they have to

but i don't know if it counts toward the incoming salary.
It seems to just be a bonus that the Pels pay, but you are correct the other team usually gives some cash in the trade to help pay it.

If it counts towards the incoming salary, Yabusule has to be involved as well.

so then the trade has to be either
Tatum/Smart/Brown
or
Tatum/Smart/Yabusele/Williams

Throwing Hayward's $32.7M in it obviously make it much easier, and we'd have Solo going out, but i seriously doubt they would do a trade with Tatum and Hayward together, and we aren't taking a trade without Tatum.

I need to stop reading the Real GM forums. Actual post there from a few minutes ago:

It's clear that the Celtics don't want to include Tatum, but are willing to include Brown. I think there is a creative compromise here. I would settle for.... Brown+Smart+14th pick+20th pick+Memphis pick + Brad Stevens. Yes, Brad Stevens. I think he would be a perfect coach for the young Pelicans and would lead to developing Zion nicely.

yes
Either smart is incoming to pels or Hayward in and solo out
those are the only required pieces
everything else is fungible

Pelicans are currently in a very very powerful position considering the winning roster they can assemble. Even as early as this offseason.
