Yeah, that 2020 8-30 protections seems moronic on the Suns part. Why not just extend the 2018-2019 range? I have heard speculation that since they have so many young players to develop now, the Suns place more value on picks 2-3 years out.

Even with the Bucks pick not coming until 2020, PHX will almost certainly have six picks in this draft (Own 1st, MIA 1st, Own 2nd, MIL 2nd, Toronto 2nd, Either MIA or CHAR 2nd). I don't think PHX is done making moves. Either Tyson or Monroe will likely be moved, and multiple picks will be packaged to either move up in the draft or for another young franchise cornerstone. Suns also have all of their own future picks and an unprotected Miami pick in 2021.

This is by no means who PHX will pursue, just throwing this out there as an example. But don't be surprised if PHX decided to trade Chriss, both Miami picks and the Bucks pick out of left field for someone like Myles Turner or something. I'm pretty sure McDonough's goal is to keep his own pick (likely top five and take one of Porter/Doncic/Bagley/Ayton/Bamba) and then package the assets he has acquired for someone else. Also, PHX will pretty easily be able to offer a max deal next year.

As far as the return goes... PHX was never going to get remotely fair value after Bledsoe did what he did. His tweet pretty much cost the Suns Malcolm Brogdon. You're just not going to get good value for a guy when he says he wants out on Twitter and then your GM sends him home/does a tour around the various media outlets bashing him publicly.

Fun little math here...

Bucks currently have a $5 mil Trade Exception exp. in Feb, a newly vacant backup center position and a solid 2nd year PG who's now a backup. Does that open the door enough for the Pels to offer Ajinca + picks for Malcom Brogdon in February should the Bledsoe/Brogdon experiment go south and John Henson/Spencer Hawes can't pick up the Greg Monroe slack?

If all they are interested in is picks, then they can have Asik/Ajinca and a first for Monroe.

That doesn't work, as we can't take on money. But something like Asik, Ajinca, Hill and a pick for Monroe and Dudley would.

Or you wait until a Dante Cunningham can be traded and tacked on to Asik and Ajinca.

Said this elsewhere, but PHX supposedly does not want to take on any real long term salary despite the rumored 3 team trade with us involved. I cannot think of any team that would want Monroe and can give back $15M+ in expiring salary. I think they eventually buy out Monroe. Dell needs to be on the phone with his agent now.

Can't match the salaries until December 15.

We would have to clear salary to take him on even at a relatively low salary. I do not think we have any non-guaranteed contracts.

TJ Warren - 24
Tyler Ulis - 22
Devin Booker - 21
Josh Jackson - 20
Dragan Bender - 20
Marquisse Chriss - 20

That's their core. Seems like the type of team that can't be anything other than patient. That's not to say it'd be the best use of their cap space, but the cap space is going unused now in a tank year and I doubt they get anything better than a first to rent it next year. It's not like they'll be a FA destination a year after tanking.

You say that's PHX's core, but right now, PHX's core is Devin Booker. Pretty much every other player/pick is available in possible deals. McDonough has been trying to bring another superstar to the desert for a while now. For example, PHX was actively engaged in talks for Porzingis when Phil was almost stupid enough to trade him this summer.

If the chance arises to flip some of those assets for an exciting young player, McDonough will do it. His job pretty much hinges on the Suns somehow landing a top three pick this year to draft an almost can't miss prospect to pair with Booker or bringing someone in via trade. People seem to think it's only a matter of time until McDonough makes a godfather offer for a star. I just wish he had done it for Porzingis.

If there is no chance of an ASik medical retirement, then it would be nice to trade for a lesser talent/good fit that provides some cost control for the future.

I would have to assume that if we traded for Monroe and sent Asik, Ajinca, Dante, & a first to Phoenix, Dell would have to have a good idea that Asik would not be medically retired.

If we do know that Omer will be medically retired, I still think the deal is worth it. Except maybe we can keep the 1st and send Diallo & a 2nd along with Ajinca & Asik. That would have us taking on $1 mil extra in salary and idk if that would put us into the luxury tax
