Just another dumb hit piece. He hasn't had the job for a year. We are 11th or 12th in payroll this year. We send right up to the limit every year. We just don't go over for the sake of doing it. We could have literally shed 70M+ in payroll this year and had a better record..
Would you call Shamit’s article last year a hit piece?

It's not like other small markets haven’t seen success. Players, executives, coaches, agents, and family members universally rave about the Oklahoma City Thunder organization – the team with the best record in the league. Sources describe the Thunder as sporting the largest staff payroll in the league, both in quantity and salary per person. Their analytics department alone draws comparisons to major league baseball teams. Moreover, the Thunder go above and beyond to take care of their staff members, players, and anyone associated with the org. Families get access to top of the line concierge medical services. Even player agents get their hotels paid for visits during the playoffs if their client is on the team. The Thunder make everyone feel incredibly valued.

The Thunder’s success proves that small-market teams can thrive — with investment, patience, and vision. There is a world where Dumars and his wealth of experience can help execute these things. But until Pelicans ownership either sells to someone who cares or has a sudden epiphany about spending, this franchise will remain stuck in the same cycle: sprinting on a treadmill, chasing mediocrity instead of greatness. Their hiring of Joe Dumars wasn’t a bold move — it was a default setting. No search, no fresh ideas, just a familiar face handed the keys to a decaying operation.

He was hired to babysit a franchise whose owners treat as a passive investment rather than a championship pursuit.

Thinking you're going to cut even more and win is insanity.
Im sorry but Joe Dumars, his child, and Troy Weaver road tripping around the country to put a team together like its 1950 is not the way to compete with OKC or Boston.
Hell, Gayle can save even more money if we just have Dumars coach the team himself, like the Walrus did. Why not?

How did he do as GM of Detroit?
The team went to 6 straight conference finals and won a Championship.
Serious question, How many losing seasons in a row would you trade for a NBA Championship?

Followed by five straight seasons only winning 35% of games, getting fired and then spending 11 years floating around between league office, a special assistant in Sacramento and at home.
It’s not that he was chosen, but the easiest path taken by ownership. You handpick Dumars with no real search because he and Loomis became friends in 2013. Gayle named a horse after him two years ago. It was just signs that they’re not taking things seriously.

I want to see if they even replace Erin Summers and We Johnson or if they just make Andrew Lopez do pre game, halftime, sidelines, and post game.

So, you wouldn't take 6-7 good to great years for 5-6 bad ones?
He failed at a rebuild. That happens to every executive. You can't make him into a failure though. His resume is pretty impressive.

He was vetted and chosen. Rich people (all people really) pick people they trust. They wanted someone to manage the business, and he has a terrific background. You really can't debate his history or qualifications, other than to point at his age. He's done it all.
