Let's face it. We needed Asik on this team because we play in a division with Duncan, Howard, maybe DeAndre Jordan, and Marc Gasol. He will be valuable in every single one of those games.

He will help the offense because he's our best screener and look at how Bogut contributed to the Warriors. He's not going to be Hakeem around the rim but if he can catch putbacks and dunk and set hard screens, that's literally all we need from him on offense.

Especially in the up tempo offense that will be run.

exactly and with Gentry's offense there will be more space on the court. I will take Asik rebounding with space over most. He is not an offensive juggernaut, but we don't need him to be.

Seems like the thread is getting more logical. Can't wait until the morning crew wakes up and sees 5/60 and flips tits.

The Bird Writes ?@thebirdwrites 4m4 minutes ago
Omer Asik's contract, after this year, is equivalent to $7-8M a season in 14-15 dollars.

The Dream Shake ?@DreamShakeSBN 3m3 minutes ago
@thebirdwrites literally the same price as his deal with the Rockets

The Bird Writes ?@thebirdwrites 2m2 minutes ago
As a percentage of the cap, Omer Asik's cap hit will decrease every season.

Hearing that the final year of Omer Asik's new
contract in New Orleans is not guaranteed. Guaranteed cash in the deal roughly $45 million

Just bc this needs to be on every page of this thread

Great signing by Dell didn't really overpay for Asik.

The rockets posters said they thought his back was worse off than was let on throughout the season. I tend to agree with them. Hopefully a nice restful offseason (and layup practice) will get him fit and more consistent on the offensive end.

as the numbers roll in... this Asik contract is basically a 4 yr/$44M deal (b/c I'm assuming there's NO CHANCE he'll see year 5 w/ $14M of mostly unguaranteed money)

when the 4th year of the deal rolls around... Asik will either be asked to redo the deal or he won't be a Pelican... either through trade (which I assume will be most likely) or he'll just be straight up released

Stab at Asik numbers. $10m, $10.75m, $11.5m, $12.25m, $13m. $57.5m total. $44.5m after 4y. Fits the reports, give or take.

that last year is a team option...

It's a solid contract for a starting C in the league.

Look, Asik isn't going to score 20 pts a game, but you can almost guarantee he will get 10 rebounds. He also changes shots because of his length and he almost never gets in foul trouble.

If he can just convert at a higher % on his FTs, he will be a steal at those numbers.

Not sure why people are saying he won't fit gentrys scheme. Bogut surely did. Was bogut ineffective in some matchups? Yes. Did he finish games on the bench? Yes. Doesn't matter he was a key cog.

If Gentry didn't think he fit in the system, I highly doubt the team would have resigned him. It's Gentry's system, so I am going to take his opinion over a couple of guys on PT. just sayin...
