Anyone a little surprised there was no news or leaks re:GM during the ASB?

Dell got fired right before the ASB and the rumors started coming out pretty hot and heavy. Presumably they made the move right at that time to get the ball rolling while the entire league was in Charlotte.

Yet not a peep on anyone they talked to, or if Loomis/Gayle etc were even there making the rounds.

Definitely thought there would be some leaks...but I'm also glad there isn't and they are keeping it tight. I'm sure there are a lot of guys with current jobs that wouldn't want it getting out they interviewed or had a convo.

It's still very early. I believe somewhere I read that they're using an "outside consultant"? I'd imagine they're still working on (1) deciding what they even want, and (2) a list of names. Anything more is likely speculative, e.g. "Pels may be interested in..."

Those outside consultant firms in sports is the biggest racket. I wish I could get in that business.

Get paid a bunch of money, submit list with a bunch of retreads.

An executive or their agent isn't going to leak this during the season because that could be damaging to their current job.

Another team won't leak during the season unless maybe they refuse permission to talk to scare away other potential suitors.

The Pels are secretive by nature. I don't expect leaks unless a candidate is out or a deal is close to done. Maybe you get a short list leak once the outside consultants narrow down the list.

Don't know.

But as ATL said, this is USUALLY a quiet org that doesn't let a lot leak.

Would be curious as to how the process is expected to work. Do other organizations allow their personnel to interview during the season? IS it possible we are only allowed to interview those without a current NBA job until the season is over (i.e. Griffin)?

I saw Fletch mentioned Trajan Langdon being a hot name over the weekend.

That's pretty interesting. AGM to Marks in Brooklyn, and they are pretty much writing the book on how to rebuild following a horrendous situation.

With coaches sometimes they allow it during the season and sometimes they make other teams wait. I would think it'd be similarly on a case by case basis. I think Boston would let it happen during the season just as an act of good will to make an AD trade more likely.

I looked him up and wasn't impressed with his resume. He just doesn't have much experience, 3 years as a scout in San Antonio and 2 years as AGM for the Nets.

That's not to say he's not a worthy candidate though. He went to Duke so you have to figure he's pretty smart based on the players they have put out in the past. He also was pretty close to getting the Detroit job so teams think he's close to ready. His resume just isn't thick enough for outsiders like us to tell much. Coach K and Pop roots are nice though.

Smart guy, played in the NBA and internationally, apparently his role with the Nets is large. I'm def interested.

I heard rumblings that gayle has been wanting changes for a while and wanted to fire dell as soon as the disaster of that magic game happened

I think jazzy Jeff said it

Ferry POBO/Langdon GM would be a nice combo. It also completely shuts down any optics issues with hiring Ferry.

Not sure how I would feel about that.

That was only a couple of days earlier, so it made sense to wait a couple of days until the ASB.

I don't want Ferry to be the first choice, but if they come back to him after making the rounds he's a good choice. He built a 60 win starless team in Atlanta partly because he made a great hire at coach. Langdon bounced around the NBA, Europe, and Russia as a player. He scouted for the Spurs for 3 years and has helped the Nets rebuild nicely with no assets. He should have a good handle on player evaluation. Based on the limited information we have to work with it seems like it'd be a good combo. Both are from Duke too so I assume they have some level of relationship already.

Would be pretty uninspiring to hire Ferry after a search, but Langdon at GM would possibly make up for some of that.

Personally I want a whole new crew with no ties to the org at all.

Yeah she was livid and had to be told to wait by loomis

It also seems she clearly put her foot down on AD

Something is different lately
