If the Pels continue their streak and lock up the 3 seed going into the playoffs you have to give it to this guy. Look at the scrubs around him on this team. Ever since Boogie went down AD has carried this team. I hate how the NBA does the MVP award because Harden will win this year because of his play LAST year and THIS year, and considering they gave it to Westbrook LAST year, Harden is a shoe-in this year. The NBA could have gave MJ 10 MVPs, Shaq 10, and LeBron the MVP each year but voting fatigue comes into play and the system is terrible.

AD plays in a small market and no one cares about teams other than Warriors, Rockets, Cavs, Celtics. Guys like AD and Derozan who are major parts in their teams successes are being left out of these discussions because of their markets and how the NBA is today.

Lets geaux Pels!! Get a Campaign fired up for AD! The man didn't puss out last night, played hurt and dropped 41 on the road! He's growing up in front of our eyes! If we want any shot at keeping the kid show the love and make a campaign for him to win MVP!!

Harden has this award locked up barring injury or a complete collapse, sadly. He's playing phenomenal, his team has the best record in the NBA, and I think he leads in nearly every metric stat.

AD getting runner up would still be huge for him and this franchise

In any other season he would be the MVP, but you have to give it to Harden. You can’t deny he’s totally earned it, despite having a much better surrounding cast than AD. It’s unfortunate that you tend to always get the typical Brees vs Rogers/Manning/Brady scenario. If the Pels/AD continue to flap and lock up the third, AD will probably get some first place votes, especially if GSW passes up Houston. But idk, I just can’t see Harden not winning it, no matter how bad I want AD to win it.

AD finishing in second sets him up nicely as THE MVP candidate going into next season, though.

Yeah, he's specifically mentioned how because the Pels didn't win the last 2 years everyone stopped talking about him. Being able to get MVP runner up probably makes him think he can be MVP in NOLA eventually. He also seems like the type of person that would take being runner up as reason to work even harder to win it all next time.

This...You could make a viable case for Brees winning an MVP and it's sad he has not. I don't think the Pelicans/Saints do a good enough job marketing their players. Understand we are in a small Market, but we need to do a better job. It will also allow them to want to buy into the city and STAY and make it an attractive place to come.

See yes, I like it but at the same time it should be on a 1 year basis..it shouldn't be a "carry over"...

Look at the Pels roster compared to these other teams. It's insane that they aren't one of the worse teams in the NBA. It just says how much AD means to this team and how good he is playing. He played hurt last night and went for 31 points (12/20 shooting) 4/6 from deeop, 9 rebs, 2 stls, and 3 blks in the 2nd half!! C'mon!! give the man the damn award!!

I have never in my life seen an individual 2 way stretch of basketball better than what AD did in the 3rd quarter last night. The award should involve who does the most to impact the game in a winning way, and if you watch the game, there is no way you can tell me another guy does this more than Anthony. His defensive impact is miles beyond what Harden is capable of doing. It's truly remarkable to watch Davis every night.

from marc stein's newsletter:

quote:

“I hear it,” Davis said. “It’s kind of fun to hear my name in the MVP talks. Of course it’s an achievement that every N.B.A. player wants, but that’s not the ultimate goal. I have plenty more time in this league for that. I want to make the playoffs. And not just make the playoffs — I want to make noise.”

quote:

“I take it personal because I should be able to carry my team to the playoffs every year,” Davis said. “It shouldn’t be, ‘They make the playoffs every two years, every three years.’ I put a lot of pressure on myself. That’s just how my mentality works.”

more, on boogie:

quote:

When visiting with Anthony Davis on Sunday night after New Orleans’ road win in Dallas, I had the chance to ask him if he thinks the Pelicans will succeed in re-signing DeMarcus Cousins in free agency this summer in the wake of Cousins’ recent season-ending surgery.

Said Davis: “I hope so. That’s a decision he has to make. I’m pretty confident that he’ll stay. From what I hear, he plans on it. But I’m going to keep selling the dream here. I’ll be very involved — I want him here.”

At the time of Cousins’s injury, New Orleans’s two big men were on a pace to become the first teammates in league history to both average at least 25 points and 10 rebounds over the course of a full season and had both been voted in as All-Star starters. But Cousins will only be a few months into his rehab on July 1, when the Pelicans will have to decide how far to extend themselves to keep the 27-year-old after they were originally expected to offer him a five-year maximum contract worth an estimated $175 million.

There's absolutely no reason not to sign Boogie. Yeah its a risk, but if he comes back and plays like he did, this team is every bit as good as Houston and GS at full strength.

Yes and the fact the Pels have such an overwhelming advantage in the paint and on the boards makes is a big deal. I don’t care what people think about small ball. If you have bigs like Davis and Cousins the other team is group worrying about the matchups.
