The thought is we are at 16 players and have 15 roster spots.
So we need to make a 2 for 1 trade to be able to even use it.
TPEs expire all the time.

Hopefully it'll be used to offload Graham's contract

No one who has the ability to take back $11m in salary right now is just going to hand us a $6m or less player unless that is a bad contract, unless they are just desperate to clear cap space.
Main reason it worked with Portland is that they were desperate to cut payroll / future money with Nance.

Depending on what happens with a Durant trade (with us or others) will determine what happens with Hayes.
If we send out JV in a trade and Nance has to be starting center, then Jax has a role here unless we can replace him.

I’d love to get rid of Graham who is worthless/redundant for us at this point and makes too much money to take a roster spot from a young promising team. We could wait til the deadline but right now and idea I like is; I’d package Graham with 1 or 2 2nds if necessary and Hayes and the trade exception also if necessary to take back a contract that may be considered not great in its own right, but could get us a player that could at least fill a need for depth in the front court.
Trading for Kelly Olynyk who has two years left on his deal where he averages 12.4 million per year. You get a guy just as capable as Hayes was looking from the 3. He’s also a traveled and respected veteran that shouldn’t cost us a more than a 2nd rounder to swap him with Graham and then throw in Hayes who isn’t expected to stay past this year bc of his RFA looming, plus we had to make this a 2 for 1 deal too. He fits what we are doing right now and will embrace his role
