Still, it's up to Oden.
Dude may be picking his LAST team to play ball with, or to even have a chance. I can understand the hesitation.
Here's how I read it: If he wants Miami, this is just Oden and his people trying to jack up the price. If he wants New Orleans, then he would have signed. If he is undecided, it's waiting for Miami to blink on the money.
To me, NOLA has more to offer overall if he wants to restart his career without pressure. Miami is the place to get a potentially `cheap' ring and end his career on a hollow high note if he doesn't really believe in his ability to come back.
If he believes he's solid . . . who knows?
The potentially-last-check factor has to be a factor.

Someone a few pages ago, I think GeauxMedic, said they heard that on SportsCenter. I haven't seen mention of it anywhere else and that was in the middle of everyone making up their own fake tweets so who knows.

I don't think Miami will blink on the money. I just do not see them paying luxury tax for Greg Oden. I agree that he probably would prefer Miami over New Orelans.

Seriously. I think there are two responsible indications of doubt in the statement.
Asking for feedback here about how this did not express at least a measure of doubt.
Again, I think people are confusing the thread title and the quote.
