I wish they were coming to Baton Rouge.
My brother saw them in the early '70's in either Alexandria or Natchitoches. The band played so loudly plaster started falling from the ceiling.

I saw them around the same time in Shreveport - my first concert. Hell yes they were loud. I remember wondering how 3 people made so much racket.
I saw them again about 10 years ago. They came out and said, "Same three guys. Same three chords."

It may have even been S'port. He was a freshman at Northwestern at the time and used to go to Shreveport frequently.

Would have been either '73 or '74. The opening band was Wet Willie, iirc.

'73-'74 was his freshman year, so that's right.

One of the worst shows ever....playing to pre-recorded backing tracks, synth music, chessy stage show and twirling guitars

Checking various sources, ZZ Top played at Shreveport's Municipal Auditorium on Jul-17-1972. Then on Feb-15-1973 they performed at Northwestern State in Natchitoches. Originally set for Prather Coliseum, there was some issue either with the building or a scheduling conflict, and the show was moved to the fine arts auditorium. Then they came back to Shreveport on Jul-31-1974, this time playing at Hirsch Coliseum.

Saw them a couple of times in the 80's and it really is impressive how much music those three guys can kick out. A very excellent band who probably are still pretty good even though they are getting long in the tooth.

How are they not doing a southeast texas/southwest la run since they are from there?

They played the Woodlands Pavilion (Houston area) in May. Set list
Pretty standard set. Good show with Bad Company and Cheap Trick opening, both of which sounded better than I was expecting. Fun night.
I've seen em several times over the last decade. I think they've adapted to aging fairly well. They seem to know themselves well enough to mix in the slow songs with lower vocals at the right places to pace themselves out and keep a nice flow to the show. Keeps them from looking like old guys who lost it.
