Would you compare M. Ward to Bright Eyes?

And what are your opinions of them?
I used to like Bright Eyes quite a bit, but I think I'm over his stuff now. M. Ward is pretty legit, though, other than his album with Zooey Deschanel.

I wouldn't compare them at all. Two totally different artists that have different overall styles, but I really like both of them.
M Ward is much more lo fi. They could both be categorized as folk/rock, but M Ward is much more into what is old is new again. And I like what he's done with Zooey fwiw.
They are technically in a band together, but that's a side project for both of them.
I don't like much from Bright Eyes previous to Lifted, but everything after that I really like, with the exception of Digital Ash. I'm kinda meh on that one. I really like what the two albums he did with The Mystic Valley Band and obviously Monsters of Folk.

Yeah, Monsters of Folk is pretty good. After Lifted, i actually thought Oberst went downhill. Though I will say that the combo of Digital Ash and I'm Wide Awake It's Morning were both decent albums, with I'm Wide Awake being better than Digital Ash. I guess I just dig M. Ward's voice more. Oberst has a plain god awful voice.

His voice is better in his latter work than the early stuff. It's still got that warble, but it's better. M Ward's is better, but I wouldn't say Oberst's is bad. I think it kinda works for him. He's a hell of a song writer though. One of the best of the past 10-15 years, imo.
M Ward has a very unique voice, which helps him stand out.
