Yes they are all sinking/selling out to endorse products. Elton John is one of my favorite artists but he is also 60+ and not trying to gain any cred. Cee-Lo is looking for an easy check. He has not been relevant since the first gnarls Barkley album. I mean at least push Benz or a Beamer in a commercial Drake. That way you can "look the part" for all your YMCMB homies. Drake will never be anything other than a corporate sell out.

It'd be different if we were talking about someone like Eminem or Boosie - people who mostly rap about drugs and violence - but Drake has some appeal. He doesn't, to my knowledge, rap about killing people or anything...so naturally these companies are going to flock to him. They can't reach their entire target market only utilizing family friendly stars like Beiber or Kelly Clarkson etc. I don't know, maybe I just think more from a business perspective...it's not hard to see when you aren't blinded by the hate for his music...and I don't even care for Drake FWIW.

It's certainly not mainstream, but worth a look...

Niki Minaj is a disgrace and a disgrace to hip hop by calling herself a rapper.

A friend of mine actually knows Yelawolf very well. Every time he is in town, he tries to talk me into going, but it just isn't my thing.

Wow. It's very apparent you've never taken a marketing class in your life. Why the hell would Mercedes-Benz or BMW want Drake as their spokesman? Most of Drake's audience can't afford a Mercedes or BMW. Plus both of those companies have already cemented their image as a premium brand; having a Rap artist, no matter who, represent that brand would tarnish the image. By your logic (that rappers should only endorse things they rap about) Drake should only be endorsing Robitussin, Jared's Diamond Jewelers, Phillies Blunts, and maybe a Bank since he raps about money a lot...

I don't think you quite understand how the endorsement business works.

Anyway, back on subject, I completely forgot about Nicki Minaj...good God I hate her. She is horrible.

why would sprite want drake as a brand ambassador and Mercedes not? He is a rich successful person? it really doesn't matter benz and bentley and all those premium brands get plenty of shout outs for free from the rappers

Because Sprite isn't trying to promote their company /brand as a high-class, expensive, premium brand. It's Sprite - it's cheap and people of all ethnicities drink it. Mercedes' target market are upper class/high-income people which is not the majority of Drake's audience. What good would it do Mercedes to have Drake as a spokesman? Seriously, answer that.

They wouldn't convince any low/middle income people to buy a Mercedes bc they can't afford one, and then to top it off having an explicit rap artist as your main endorser would most likely turn some of the upper income people off to the brand.

I really don't see how this doesn't make sense to y'all.

i understand your reasoning, and i'm with you, benz would be retarded deal with a poser like drake, BUT, i think your saying that only poor people listen to drake or rap. I would venture to say that most people 35 and under listen to alot of rap, and have alot of money, rap is alot about a lifestyle and to an extent so is mercedes, most drive a benz b/c they want to project a certain image not jst for the nutts and bolts of the thing.

for example showing a old rich white guy driving a benz isn't going to motivate the new generation to aspire to drive a benz, ask buick and lincoln about that.

Nah that's not what I meant...probably poor choice of wording on my part.

I'm just saying Sprite is much more accessible, anyone with a dollar in their pocket can buy Sprite...not so much with a Benz. So it makes sense to get more widely known artists to represent them. You also have to ask yourself:

Would the average potential Sprite consumer be more/less willing to buy Sprite if Drake endorsed it?

vs.

Would the average potential Mercedes Benz customer be more/less willing to buy Sprite if Drake endorsed them?

This goes for pretty much all mainstream recording artists. I can't even remember the last recording artists to endorse BMW/Mercedes/Lexus...if there were ever any.

ETA: This whole thing is off subject anyway...the main issue was Drake is a sellout for endorsing Sprite - to which I say no bc Sprite is probably paying him a shitload. I'd take the money too.

well for me i would blackball both brands just for using him. but i'm with you, i still can't believe Chrysler used Eminim for their commericals, i know he's a detroit hero and all but, if you've ever listened to any of his lyrics and your not a rap fan, it has to be offensive.

but they also used snoop back in the day too
