95% of the people I know that go to jam band shows hold down jobs and are "normal." The amount of actual "wooks" at shows these days is very low. Talking about Phish shows here.
These aren't people that are following the band around the country, as you mentioned in the OP.
You used the fact "that they have hordes of people following them around the country" as evidence that their fans are the best.
Are their hordes of them, or not? Make up your mind.

Negative... A lot of punk and indie fans are collectors and purchase all that... Especially, the vinyl
Maybe it's a generational thing and the kids don't do that as much... But many people I know still do. Typically. The only digital files I have come free with the vinyl or I ripped from the CD.

So they dont' have hordes of fans following them around the country?
So they're just like any other fanbase that go to concerts? I think Madonna fans probably have more dedication.

People make vacations out of destination shows such as The Gorge in Washington, Madison Square Garden in NYC, Bill Graham Auditorium in San Francisco, etc...

Wooks can't afford to go to shows. This isn't the '90s. Gas/airfare isn't cheap. Concert tickets aren't either.
Posted on 10/7/13 at 10:58 am to HeadyBrosevelt
yeah, other fans would never travel to catch a show.
Michael Jackson fans are more dedicated.
Michael Jackson fans are more dedicated.

My thought is SLC punk but from you, probably a horror movie.

People also follow them around the country, get fricked up, and don't do shite else.
IDGAF about what your friends do. You and I both know that there are people that do this...... Many people.

I don't consider showing up in NYC for a couple shows at MSG "following the band around the country".

If your criteria for "dedicated fans" is selling merchandise, traveling and selling out huge venues, then Justin Bieber currently has the most dedicated fan base in the world.

Bieber fans do not travel cross-country to shows, or see multiple shows on a single tour.

You haven't given away/been given a ticket to a Phish show?
I take back everything I said, and am now going to go with:
Phish fans now suck at being Phish fans.
