Why didn't anyone tell me The Black Parade was a banger?

I'm under 30 so I could identify Welcome to the Black Parade just by hearing that one G note, but I never gave the whole album a listen. I had heard the singles (ok maybe just WTTBP and Teenagers) when they came out but not the story underneath the entire album.

Then today this video breaking down the composition, music theory, and symbolism of WTTBP, and partially the rest of the album, popped up on my YouTube recommended videos. It's a great watch even if, like me, you know minimal music theory.

So I sat down and gave the whole album a listen and man it's good. I had always written off MCR as emo junk but I see now I was wrong. The title song is the millennial Bohemian Rhapsody, and the story-telling is a callback to the rock opera albums of the past.

tl;dr listened to MCR, liked it, was transported back to 2006

Welcome to 15 years ago. A lot of people hated on MCR due to their aesthetics and cringy fans, so it wasn’t cool to like them back then, but MCR makes incredible music.

I bought that album off the strength of the title track, having never heard any other songs from them. It's a brilliant record and their other stuff isn't half bad either.

WHEN I WAS…A YOUNG BOY

But yeah Teenagers is fun and Cancer is heart-wrenching. Never been a big MCR fan, but they wrote some catchy tunes in the mid aughts. Gerard Way is a creative motherfricker.

I usually can't stand Emo. I never gave this band or album a chance until someone on here brought it up.

It's a very good album through and through.
