There's a sessions guy from the 60s and 70s that played bass on many hit songs. I think his first name was Joe and he's from North Louisiana. Good bassist.

Carol Kaye! I'm sure she's been mentioned in this thread--what a bass player, what a story.
to you Carol!

Lot of great stuff on YouTube (also see the documentary The Wrecking Crew):

I grew up on John Paul Jones, Entwistle, Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, etc., so I don't even know what the OP is talking about.

YouTube is so awesome, check out this video with isolated bass track of Entwistle playing Won't Get Fooled Again in concert:

Amazing.

I consider myself a guitarist first and foremost, but I have equally as much fun playing gigs on bass. It's a completely different mindset and I love holding down the bottom and basically guiding the music. Pretty much ask yourself What would George play? and you can't really go wrong.

Speaking of bass players, I'd be playing it tonight but Rook Goldflies is playing with us. Look that guy up.

I am a guitar player but I met and drank with Steve Harris at an airport bar and was starstruck. He is a beast on a bass guitar.

You really can't have a great song with out a bass player.

Bassist Joe Osborn -- from Mound LA, wherever that is. (Backed up Ricky Nelson along with Shreveport's James Burton, so 2/3 of Ricky's band was from LA)

So good he later became a member of the Wrecking Crew. Roy Halee (engineer/producer for Simon and Garfunkel): "You never have to stop the tape because of a mistake by Joe Osborn. There just aren't any."

Compare the opening bass riff here to "We Ain't Got Nothin' Yet" by The Blues Magoos and "Black Night" by Deep Purple:

Ricky Nelson -"Summertime" (1962)

Ox.

BTW, if you've never seen The Kids Are Alright, the documentary from whence this performance comes, find it and watch it.

Right now.

It's a tiny village that's across the Mississippi River from Vicksburg. I had to look it up, haha.
