I'll see your Robert Johnson and raise you a Leadbelly.
Leadbelly was my favorite musician for a while after I first heard him.
He definitely deserves some recognition.

Who are you? Who? Who? Who? Who?
My vote for best band of all-time, in ways they were influential but so was Cream yet the Who had a singular songwriter, whereas Cream had the Jack Bruce/Pete Brown collaboration, which stood out to me in terms of their projection and performance as a unit.

Modern music?
Would have to be any of the blues greats, Robert Johnson, Skip James, Elmore James etc. without these, "modern" music of the late 50's and 60's would not have been ....

Little Richard is a great one especially if you link him up with Chuck Berry.

For Rock & Roll only, Elvis and the Beatles.
This...even though they were influenced by so many before them...

Modern Rock.....Little Richard, Elvis and Chuck Berry are all at the top.
McCartney wanted to be Little Richard
Lennon wanted to be Elvis
Richards wanted to be Berry.

Chuck Berry
The amount of musicians that hit it big in the late '60's and all throughout the '70's that say they grew up listening to Chuck Berry on an AM radio and it made them want to pick up a guitar is huge.
No one played like him at the time (at least on such a big stage).
