Interestingly enough, Allman Bros were more rooted in R&B, soul, some jazz influence and old school blues.....the sound that most of us identify as southern rock when thinking about the Allman Bros didn't crop up until the 1973 Brothers and Sisters album, after Duane and Barry had passed.

Think of this like funk. James Brown is the godfather of soul/funk. He was the originator.
