overrated potentially douchey aspect of the lead singer. Rarely sounds as cool as the singer thinks. I particularly like the hand cupping the ear in the "i can't hear you" pose.

No Attila? Or Abbath?

I like both of them, but mayhem to me is with dead. The first albums I heard from them were dawn of the black hearts and live in Leipzig.
Abbath is great, very talented metal musician. His body of work is amazing. I'd like to get more from his solo project.

Attila is a great singer though. Abbath has a good stage presence and his voice is ok. He's got a new album coming out soon too.

I love me some Bathory and Quorthon and all but not one of the greatest vocalist. I mean the guy is a key cog to early Black Metal and the founder of Viking Metal but not greatest singer.
Ghaal though is a joke and Gorgorth has deteriorated with him in the lead.

He hasnt been in gorgoroth going on about 12 years now. But, when he was in it, it was arguably the time where most eyes were on that band.

Sorry I meant had not has. I think most of those eyes came with his interview from Headbanger's Journey. He was in that interview a caricature of Black Metal.

Good list until you got to:
His voice wasn't exceptional, even in his youth. I mean, it wasn't terrible, he was a lead singer after all, but much more of a vocal stylist than singer.
Also, not a great vocalist. There I said it.
Meh.
Probably the best of these 4 but still nowhere in the same category as others on your list.
Now, don't get me wrong - unstable as they are, Ozzy, DLR and Axl are great frontmen (or were, at least at some point). Vince probably doesn't qualify for that category, as Nikki largely fronted Crue.
Dickinson, Tate, Coverdale and Halford - your first 4 would closely align with my Top 4 from a pure vocalist evaluation, I suppose. Bach and RJD would also be right there.

Seems like Tommy did as well. I've always felt, if your band's most popular member is the drummer..there are issues.
