YES, very sad!
They tried to make me go to rehab
I said, no, no, no
Yes, I been black
But when I come back, you'll know, know, know
I ain't got the time
And if my daddy thinks I'm fine
He's tried to make me go to rehab
I won't go, go, go

Amy Winehouse was amazing.
I'd put Patsy Cline on any list of top female vocalists who died too young.

Hell I'm A LOT better vocalist than Janis but she had the "it" factor
Winehouse did as well. She was probably as insecure as Joplin, but things came to her much more quickly, and she handled them even poorly, if possible.
I don´t get the bashing of Amy Winehouse, she was truly talented and unique.
She´ll be remembered and revered.

Well said.
Speaking of Amy Winehouse, It is my contention that had she not died when she did (and she had been on a downward spiral for a few years at that point), Adele would be no more remembered than, say, Duffy. There is really only room for one British, female "soul/bluesy" type singer, and that spot was Amy's for as long as she wanted it.
If Winehouse could have gotten her shite together and released an album in 2011/12, Adele's 21 may not have taken off like it did. People would have just said," Oh, an Amy Winehouse wannabe."
What say the MB?
Oh, and as good as Winehouse was, she was nowhere near Joplin, Etta, Patsy, or Karen Carpenter.

I'm not seeing any bashing in this thread

Nowhere near the top.
This. Too much of a niche performer and too brief of a career.
She's like Norah Jones if Jones were a junkie and died in 2004. About 3-4 years after she got big.

Not too but pretty high. I like her songs.
Karen Carpenter should be in the RR Hall Of Fame as should several other pop bands. If they let Kiss in they should be in as they were far superior in their genre.

You can't put her in the same class as Janis. Smh
Janis Joplin couldn't carry Amy Winehouse's jockstrap.

This Janis Joplin throatfrickfest is making me nauseous. She's not merely overrated, she might well epitomize it.
If you're a vocalist and you can't sing then..ummm....
The only answer is that you better be writing some amazing damn songs. So maybe you give Dylan a pass. Maybe you give Taylor Swift a pass. But Janis Joplin?
