quote:He's spent his entire career imitating Roger McGuinn and the Byrds. McGuinn got maybe 3 or 4 years of success out of the biz. Petty's been a big name for almost 40.
Tom Petty from FL... The Heartbreakers sounded West Coast.
In one of my favorite ironies McGuinn, desperate to jumpstart his career, toured with Petty. You'd think he'd've sued him for plagiarism

I think it's more amazing that Van Morrison is freaking Irish.

"Tony Joe White > CCR"
I don't know about that, but think they're both fantastic!

I was a kid in the late 60's/early 70's when they ruled radio. CCR and The Band were the "Southern bands" that we listened to. Out of those nine guys, only Levon Helm was from the South.
We couldn't wait for the first cool day so that we could wear our CCR flannel shirts to school. That style lasted way past their initial influence.

Was initially stunned bc the music and John's voice incorporated an incredibly strong twangy, Southern influence. The band certainly embraced the part with the name and wardrobe.

I learned this as a young girl, disconcerting to say the least. I called Z-98 during Hurricane Andrew and requested "Bad Moon (on the rise)" I was like 11. I memorized a full CCR album on my g-ma's stand-up record player, from 1956, which I now own, and can still sing all the lyrics....
Didn't JF get sued when he went out on his own, for sounding too much like CCR?

I saw John Fogerty at UNO in New Orleans playing all CCR songs but his contractual relationship with record companies hindered his volume of work and ability to play live fro many years. That why he was out of the scene when he should have been at peak.

No reaction, Cali now is different from Cali then.

I didn't care. What you should be asking is whether CCR was CCR or not just John Fogerty.

You both miss the fact that she spent time / developed skills in her short time in UT / Austin. Including a date (just one) with conservative bastion Bill Bennett. No wonder she was a confused young lass :)
