Regardless of how you felt about the album they released, collectively there was a lot of talent in that band from a performance, production, musicianship standpoint. I did see where they were inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame - they're in some pretty good company there. My friends and I used to enjoy their live shows in the 90's - especially the tons of lovely ladies that seemed to follow them religiously

When grunge became popular they went the way of the dinosaur. Tracy is still a bad arse drummer but doesn’t play out.

One of the kids was the drummer for the Givers and is now in another band.

Those guys played at the Tiger a lot and they rocked it during sound check but played the dance music to make money. Very talented guys

God I hated them. There were at least a couple of instances where I paid cover to get into a club, found out they were playing and turned around and immediately left.

Wonder if Kevin ever got a toupee?

That's harsh There weren't too many bands around at the time I recall playing much Depeche Mode, The Cure, INXS covers like them. They had a nice sound. Can't speak to how they were personally, but they filled a live niche for that genre of music.

Same. It’s embarrassing that they made it into the La Music HOF, but I see where it was just a sub-category of regional artists. But I still don’t get it. Their flash in the pan regional spark just doesn’t compare with other artists in that same category like Henry Gray, Clutch, and Raful Neal. Those 3 earned it the right way and didn’t have to leave music fans to wonder whether they had to suck a dick to get inducted.

But truth. They were pretty cheesy even by mid 80's standards and they were early 90's. They were trying to pull this off a generous 7-10 years too late.

That was cringy and whoever managed them, I imagine, was probably late 40's who still longed for the prime Kingfish days.

You cant recover from trying to pull this off in their "prime."

There was definitely a heavy dose of cringe in that video and honestly throughout their album.

I vaguely recall many, many years ago having a chat with the bassist and a mutual friend at the time and he alluded that the demos they brought to the studio were basically gutted by the production team and the A&R guys. Truth or not, nobody really wanted light airy R&B tinged pop then - or now even.

That was according to the kids FB page, but the name shows up nowhere on The Givers wiki page

Dear God! That’s awful. I played at Fred’s & Murphy’s in the early ‘90s and am stunned a band like that didn’t get their asses kicked in Red Stick. Jesus, They sounded like the Miami Sound Machine!
