What songs do you put on playlists for family gatherings?

I usually like to have at least some background music when our family is hanging out. This weekend we should have good weather and be outside. What are some songs y'all put on playlists for these type of gatherings? I usually stick with classic rock and oldies and a few modern singer/songwriters thrown in there.
Right now I have Paul McCartney, Allman Brothers, CSNY, Jerry Jeff Walker, Traveling Wilburys, The Band, Steve Earle, The Jayhawks, Grateful Dead, George Harrison, and Whiskeytown, among others.
I like to keep a playlist for just about any type of occasion, especially because I hate it when people are constantly changing and/or unplugging someone's music and putting on their own. frick those people.

A good party playlist is tough. I normally load about 400-500 songs, which of course is way more than you need, and then hit shuffle. But it seems you have the right mix of stuff for a family party. This isn't the time to roll out your back catalog and favorite obscure artists (ok, maybe one or two that fit the overall theme... I feel I can put the David Mayfield Parade in the mix and it'll work, but not, say, the Germs).
It needs to fade into the background, but still get people's head's a-bopping. It's a hard thing to do, particularly when the ages will span from 0-75.

For family, I generally stick to classic rock. With my dad's family, it's more 60's/70's rock with a little country and swamp pop mixed in. For my mom's family, the country and swamp pop are replaced by New Orleans funk and blues (like the Meters, Wild Tchopitoulas, Dr. John, ect), and maybe a little 80's rock as long as it's not too heavy.
For family gatherings, the music is never the focus, just a comfortable, fun backdrop.

Yeah I try to stay away from especially loud songs. I will throw in some of my favorites every once in a while and folks will ask who it is and sometimes even beginning listening to a new artist that way. I listen to Spotify all day at work so I will do the radio function and add songs to the appropriate playlist throughout the day. Usually add about 30 or 40 songs in a day. My favorite list is one that is just a hodgepodge of random songs from different genres that I just happen to like and it makes for a very diverse playlist and one I never really get tired of.

Build Me Up Buttercup by the Foundations is the greatest Pandora station, period, but also very good for this type of occasion.

I like to play a 60's mix and some bluesy stuff ie Dust My Broom- Elmore James or maybe some soul like Lee Fields. I like to mix it up some so it doesn't all sound like the same type of music. Sounds like you have a pretty solid background music list right now though.
